Midwestern cities need jobs. DC is too crowded. A simple solution.

Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati, and other former industrial powerhouses in the Midwest are struggling. The industries that have supported those cities have gone away, leaving them overbuilt and underpopulated. Meanwhile, coastal cities like New York and Washington, DC are overcrowded and absurdly expensive. So, why not relocate some well-paying federal jobs from the capitol area to the Midwest?

I think this is a great idea! I wonder whether it has ever been proposed? Anyone have objections to moving government jobs to the Mid-west to help their economy?

Unlike other countries, the US set aside an independent area to specifically house the federal government.

DC isn't a state so that no state can have "control" over federal government interests.

What you are proposing would mean that every time a city struggles, the federal government would spend billions to relocate to help them out.

I believe that many federal agencies are broken up into regional offices.  I know that Boston has a regional FBI and CMS office and there is an IRS office in the suburbs. The FBI just got a brand new building.  I assume that the midwest has something similar.

I get your point though. Much of the government is privatized too.  There are a LOT of government contractors.

I think that is the SECOND good idea you ever had.  I forget what the first one was, because it was so long ago.  :announce:

Pretty much all federal government agencies has "field offices" in all major cities.  The FBI has a field office in every state.
