Just started taking modalert Modafinil yesterday, still experimenting with the dosage.

      My 'modafinil diary'
      Day 1: (Yesterday)
I took 100mg in the morning and another 100 midday (cut the 200mg pill in half), and it kept me awake when I need to. Period.

      Day2: (Today)
Took a 200mg pill when i woke up (around 7:45). And to make sure yesterday's result isn't just some placebo effect, I plan on taking 100mg around 22:00 and see if that'll keep me awake for the whole night.

      Day3: (Plan for tomorrow)
If I do go without sleep for 24 hours, then that means the pills are 'real'. so I guess I'll take 200mg at 7:00 and go to school. Then order some more, since by then I'll only have around 16 pills left.

So far, from what I've experienced, Modafinil keeps me awake in a somewhat 'robotic' way. (Again, at this stage, it might be a placebo effect). My eyelids were never heavy, I did hours of maths and physics on end, and there's this little urge to write/type stuff. It is easier to concentrate, and I didn't even feel tired after working through tons of mathematical proof, differentiation, integration, sin/cos/tan identity questions.

Here's a question for all of you who are already using Modafinil:

How much do you take in a 24-hour period?
And how? All at once? 2/3/4/times a day?

What's the longest period of time you've gone without sleep?

And, what brand are you taking? Mine's Modalert, I bought 20*200mg for £12, but I'm THINKING of buying the 'proper' brand, Provigil, which is much much much more expensive, and the website I'm ordering from only has the 100mg versions (the 100 and 200mg's prices don't differ much, so I'd have to pay double for the same dosage)
P.S. I've sent an email to my insurance company to see if they'll cover the cost of buying modafinil off the internet, if they do, then price won't be an issue:D .

Personally I haven't experienced any side effects, aside from my pee smelling a bit weird, but that doesn't affect my social life, or my studies or anything. They said side effects include insomnia, but I fell asleep within 10 minutes of getting in bed.

And lastly, where do you get it from? As in, mine's made in India by sun pharma, and the company selling the stuff is in Hong Kong (does that sound dodgy???lol).

Modafinil contains only 50% of a longer-lasting stereo isomer form (R-modafinil) that's now available on the market. The other 50% is a shorter-lasting isomer called S-modafinil. Since that formulation isnt working for you, you might want to try the longer-lived enantiomer on its own. It's called Nuvigil (armodafinil) and since it stays in your blood longer than modafinil, you should only need 150 mg a day.

Spintendo's suggestion is a good one. The racemic mixture of both enantiomers acts very differently than the new stereoselective drug. (But then again, the pharmaceutical companies claim this with all sorts of drugs, many of which are no different).

And what's wrong with India's drugs? As a pharmacist in the US, I have to say that lots of our drugs are manufactured there!

i've always had this thing against drug-induced performance.  I don't like the idea of needing to stay awake for days on end just for school.  i think school workloads might be too much in your case, but you shouldn't have tken too many classes, then.

I get fortunate in that regard in that the medication that I'm on for ADHD doubles as an anti-sleep medication. Dexedrine (otherwise known as Dextroamphetamine… accent on the amphetamine) seems to both keep my mind going and keep me awake. The only down side is that every now and then, I have to counter it with a dose of Temazepam in order to sleep.

I ordered some Cialis from India (Ok I know this is not directly on topic with this thread but relevant to this reply) after having gone through the sample pack of Brand Cialis (Lily) the doctor gave me. I can say the action (erections) was exactly the same. As the woman over the phone said (Canada Pharmacy which orders from Cipla in India) the only difference is in the binders used on the tablets. I can also say the side effects were the same. I purposely took a higher dose to check and yep same achiness in the thighs ( I can't take more than 10mg even 5 works ok).

So don't assume India drugs are inferior or have more side effects. The Major pharma web sites like Pfizer will tell you India or wherever is bad because of any number of reasons but big pharma is trying to protect their position and they are DESPERATE as many drugs are going off-patent and they will LOSE exclusivity. Thus they resort to scare tactics! Please consider this.

                    No idea about Modafinil though!

You can get a lot of other drugs from India over the net without a prescription too.
