More scared of a Hillary presidency than a "true" Trump supporter, but having met him several times, he isn't as stupid as he is being portrayed by the media.

I really dislike both candidates. A lot. I don't feel comfortable saying I "prefer" one over the other. I'm not even willing to get into the many different reasons why I dislike them. Debating over two people I already dislike seems pointless, especially when it comes to talking about them to people who've already made their minds up one way or the other and shut the door on dissenting opinions. That seems to be what partisan politics are all about these days.

One positive I can offer about Trump specifically is that I think he will most likely be a lame duck president. I get the feeling he won't be able to accomplish any of his more ridiculous proposals, or will at least be forced to compromise on them. That's my big "hope" for a Donald Trump presidency.

I'm not sure that is very 'positive'

From an overseas perspective it is a puzzle how he got this far…

given the amount of hate is he is receiving from all media and celebrities, i am intrigued with the donald.. furthermore i believe Hillary will be a truly awful president with a very aggressive stance on other countries, so theres a chance trump will positively shake things up.

what really makes me sad is that even though everyone is complaining about the 2 choices, nobody is giving their vote on the 3rd party (libretarians) which just makes me think that america simply deserves what they are voting for.

From the UK but I have been following whthis election pretty avidly. You just couldn't write this stuff! Its been better than the most reality TV.

                    Trump-
A ridiculous choice. I really don't mean to be offensive but I honestly believe anyone that would consider him either hasn't been "plugged in" to this election or is just daft.

                    Hillary-
I genuinely don't understand what everyone's issue is.
                    Emails (meh).
Pay2play- Again, nothing new. At least the money was actually going to charity work. And frankly if some back door dealing is what's needed to get the power players in Middle East to the table so be it.
Basket of deplorbles- Umm, bang on the money.

                    Johnson-
A wasted vote and also seems like a moron

                    Stein-
A wasted vote and is unrealistic.

I really don't understand why it is always "the media". The media has nothing to do with it. Its the stupid, unpolished shit he says (and tweets) that makes him look stupid. The media haven't doctored his words, actions and policies, they have just reported and commented on it.

I believe that he is different in real life, but unfortunately that doesn't matter. This is the side of him the American people get to experience either in his campaign or as president

I fully supported Trump… to NOT or NEVER get elected as President. No offense, but his expertise would be better elsewhere, perhaps in fields of economics

I think Hillary is an evil, frigid, fake, vapid, stupid, self absorbed  cunt.

I still like her more than Trump.

I think I have to agree with hw597 - the media don't make his speeches, the media don't post his tweets. He seems capable of looking stupid on his own…

For those who are curious about the Hillary hatred, I think it's important to remember that American sexism is particularly quiet, pervasive, self reinforcing, and has never "been an issue" that the bulk of American society really cares to ACTUALLY think about outside of a college campus, or feminist safe haven. It's always 'not that big of an issue'… except if you look at systematic indicators of sexism. Those consistently show clear, blatant fuckery. So, Hillary is either too weak, or too strong. She may not be aggressive enough (Trump has the right temperament for president, right?) or, she's a frigid ****. She ends up being either the grandma you ignore, or the devil spawn. There isn't a middle ground because Americans don't generally process women outside of their object based reality.

(For the record - I'm a liberal American originally from a conservative community in the midwest.)

I'm a bit neutral to the pro v con Hillary debate - but if you aren't debating policy and you claim that she is an "evil, frigid, fake, vapid, stupid, self absorbed cunt," then you are just being sexist. Anyone who wants to discuss, for example, policy decisions she has made that have disproportionately effected people of color, gays, etc., that's an acceptable discussion.

Fwiw, she is objectively not stupid unless you believe that Yale is actually for stupid people... and that Obama is stupid... and that Bill is stupid... but tbh, that entire post was clearly just a sexist ejaculation, so nit picking probably isn't worth it.

                                    :crazy2:

Wouldn't call myself a supporter, but I'd say I see some positives that others may not. I like that he's for a flat tax and that he doesn't put up with much. (Of course, there is a level of schmoozing that's necessary for a president, but I think he's got the appropriate amount which is why he became a successful billionaire, aside from his father giving him a "small loan of $1,000,000) Won't be voting for him. But won't be voting for Hillary either.

Well, not to be rude, but no shit. I didn't think I'd need to explain that was meant ironically, given the overall tone of my previous post. But yes, I was using the word "positive" ironically. Maybe I should have used more scare quotes. I dunno.

And most of us in the US are just as puzzled as you are.

A friend of mine has shared the idea that while there are many who would deny it, having a woman as president may not be as acceptable an idea for some Americans as some would like to believe- and people may be supporting Trump because of that.

I've followed the campaigns for quite a while and also found it fascinating how he manages to retain a strong following despite all the hateful things he has said and done throughout.

The best and most intimate glimpse I've found into the mindset of a Trump supporter was from this article:
                                          https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/finally-someone-who-thinks-like-me/2016/10/01/c9b6f334-7f68-11e6-9070-5c4905bf40dc_story.html

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short.
But shout it at them in German, because life is also terrifying and confusing.
