I cut my own hair, and my partner's as well.

Professionally, every 2 weeks or so.  Actually I've just got a haircut yesterday.

It's a monthly ritual of luxury for me - I don't treat often myself like that with other stuff/services but I like a pro do his/her job superb throuout the whole experience. 🙂

I've done it with clippers once, but wouldn't even try it with scissors, as asimpleman said, I would rather let a pro do their job, so much so that I'll often get the full service and have a hot towel cut-throat razor shave while I'm there.

I take a 1/2" blade and cut it, all over, about one a week. Not quite to the stage of using a razor…but close 😞

Here in our country as a cliche, barber shop and beauty parlour are "dime a dozen"even those fancy ones, they are everywhere, with small scale and middle scale ones, since it's a cut throat competition, you can get a hair cut without an appointment and if you converted the payment into dollars, it's only $2.00 or under so I get mine done every month.

I started cutting my own for a year now, every 3 months I guess.
Never turns out the way I like, still watch lots of YouTube tutorials but, yeah, it's hard 😕

I have been using a Flowbee (https://www.flowbee.com/) for about a dozen years.  I trim the edges (sides and back) with a regular electric hair clipper.  I am an attorney with wavy hair and have received compliments on how well groomed I always am.  The Flowbee is fast and easy to use; it vacuums up all the cut hair.  It has paid for itself many times over.  Do it in your own home, at your convenience and as often as you wish.

My partner and I have been cutting each other's hair for about 3 years now, the first year was a lot of trial and error but seriously it is well worth it to teach yourself this skill, both of our haircuts are perfectly groomed and we can cut as often as once a week if we like.

Often times the "professionals" don't even listen to what you're asking them to do and the haircuts come out looking like you went to Fantastic Sam's anyway so why not mess it up once or twice while learning. The hardest part to learn is trimming around the ears and neck with clippers once you get that down the rest becomes a little easier as time goes on.

Youtube and Instagram are two great places to see skilled barbers cut hair and learn techniques from them. As long as you make a small upfront investment in good tools and learn how to properly use and clean them it really does work out to be better than going somewhere to get it done.

Both my partner and I receive compliments on our hair and it's fun because we each get to craft a style for each other. Trust your instinct and cut small amounts to start and continue pushing yourself to try something you read or watch. It will take about 6 months before you're truly confident in your skills but it is well worth the money saved and the frustration of having to go to a salon and have small talk with strangers.

It takes loads of patience and it might be better if you learn with a friend and do each other's hair at first so you can see all the different techniques of blending and texturing first hand.

I have long hair that I almost always keep in a ponytail right now. But I do, once every decade or so, go through a period of getting it cut cheaply 2-4 times, then shaving my head bald a handful of times once I get sick of paying for haircuts. Eventually, I just let it grow really long again, if I can stand to stick it out through that long "shaggy period", once it starts growing out again. Rinse, repeat.

Well, a DIY haircut is certainly a risky business but it could really help you save a lot while getting to experiment as much as you want to..
