"Bonus Points Appreciated!"–and the like…
-
Uploaders…quit begging.
Obviously, points received are appreciated, and I feel that reference in the description does little in helping to gain these points. Only once, have I given points, based on an uploader mentioning it in the description; which noted…
“Probably not worth any bonus points but a thanks always gives a warm feeling.”
I smiled reading that, and gladly gave up some points.
Aside from letting your upload speak for itself, in your quest for these precious points, there are so many more points readily available from the site, which would easily exceed the amount gifted to you.
I too, value and appreciate the points I’ve been given for my uploads, but they only make up about a third of my point total. In the approximate year and a half I’ve been a member, I’ve been given close to 5,300 points. However, I’ve got over close to 14,800 from other sources!
I’d have to attribute much of that to being a prolific uploader, although I have no idea how many uploads the average uploader has made, so I could be just “average,” or maybe even below. Regardless, with 71 uploads, 64 of which are active, at least I think I’m pretty “prolific.”
Anyway, a good share ratio, coupled with the total number of your uploads, can give you plenty of opportunity to “score big.” In my case, I’m allowed 101 downloads a day. That translates to 202 points, in category vote points alone!
So, I say again…uploaders quit begging, and keep uploading.
(Just a little rant, and friendly advice, from a fellow member, and uploader.)

Totally agree. Except TBH I kinda like when points are requested because it makes it easier for me to justify not having to gift any of my precious points.

I recognise that And that upload got 81 points in total. And I happen to know that the uploader neither wants nor needs any more points.
There is the old saying 'If you don't ask, you don't get'. And is saying 'bonus points are appreciated' really begging?
I have no objection to people asking. It would be helpful if we knew whether the uploader really needed them though.
(see, another point in the pot for me)

Re.: cannonmc reply…
Okay...It may not be "begging," but I'm quite sure it is stating something that is pretty much obvious. I mean, do you know anyone who doesn't appreciate receiving bonus points?
-
Ellis, I appreciate them but for reasons you can probably see, I'd never ask for them.
But why I really appreciate them is it means someone has bothered to say thanks. And that means more to me than points.
And if someone really needs some points to be able to enjoy the entire site, let them ask. Does me no harm.

Re.: cannonmc reply #4…
"And if someone really needs some points to be able to enjoy the entire site, let them ask."
Fine. Yes, I agree...Let them ask, saying they need them, and I've no problem with that; but personally, I feel the statement "bonus points appreciated" is stating something redundant, and obvious, and does little in influencing someone to give points.
However, you seem to be missing what I'm getting it, which is to utilize some of the other options the site provides, in an effort to gain points, instead of asking.
-
Yeah, begging for bonus points maybe be not the best style but I admit I did it too.
But I don't think it helped much. If you want bonus points try to find something rare or make a nice collection of things with quality preview pictures.
-
I wish you could see the uploaders ratio. I would be more wiling to give to people with low ratios who are likely trying to improve their ratio versus giving them to someone who doesn't want or need the points.
I've been a member here for 8 years but I was never active in the forums or an uploader until recently. I always had a good ratio so I didn't need to. Then i had a hard drive failure and stupidly screwed up my ratio because I didn't understand the rules. It's totally my fault. I've been here for 8 years and download regularly. I should have known. I'm trying to get myself up to Power User status but it's not easy when you are talking about TB's of data to upload.

Having done my share of uploading…

In my opinion and from personal experience, if you're looking for points, here's your answer…

_We cannot exactly knows whether the uploader of a certain torrent really needs that bonus points since we are all anonymous, once we uploaded a torrent.
As for me, once I've finished downloading a torrent and voted for that category, I always returned that extra 2 points to the uploader as my way of giving back and thanking the uploader._

I upload as well. I started to upload because I was in red numbers all the time. I really needed SB. I was also looking for duplicate torrents. Anything to fix my ratio. I wrote SB appreciated as well few times. I stopped long time ago. I saw that as begging and didn't like the feeling. But when I stopped and You guys sometimes got so crazy with giving SB that I felt like I'd need to write SB appreciated because it was appreciated. So if its written like that you don't really know what it really means. It would be different if it would say …please give me SB.
But I think unless uploader is also crazy downloader for other stuff, he or she doesn't really need SB. I download stuff, but I upload so much that downloading isn't even noticed in my ratio -
It never hurts to ask. Does it make a difference? probably not, but I also don't find it annoying or bothersome when people ask. If you don't want to give points, don't give points.
If someone took the time to edit, upload and seed a file that it shouldn't be out of bounds to politely ask for some bonus points.

I just wish people would click on thank you if they like omething. Then you can update them with other videos in case you're doing siterip and they don't miss any parts.

:true:
I've always tried to send some bonus points or at least click on thank you to let the uploaders know I appreciate the effort and also give extra to the ones which I want to see more of. It's a small token for the effort they put in, and helps let them know which ones I really enjoyed.
