Is gay marriage legal in your country?
-
no , and i don't see any hope in any near future.. in china
-
It's not legal here in Hungary, and it's not gonna change for decades I guess. The current government introduced a new constitution a few years ago which says that marriage is between a man and a woman and families are made up of a husband, a wife and their children only, which is kind of infuriating and ludicrous. There was a case last year where a grandfather went to a pool with his grandchildren, and they weren't entitled to the family ticket because according to the law they are not considered a family…
But hey, there is civil partnership, which is only available for same-sex couples, and comes with almost all the benefits that a marriage would provide to a couple.
Also, you can adopt a child, but not as a couple, and you can't adopt your partner's children to become their co-guardian or something. Also last year there was an incident where a lesbian couple wanted to adopt a roma little girl with disability, whom nobody wanted. Everything seemed to go smoothly and the 3 of them had been living happily together for 2 weeks when child services took the girl away from them because of their "disturbing way of living".

It's legal in Slovenia. So legal that we had to vote do we want in marriage papers to be written partners as gay ppl wanted or as it used to be husband and/or wife. It's still done the old way. First one was at the end of February this year. There are still rules against adoption and insemination tho. They're legal in Austria as well.
-
No, it is illegal in Egypt
-
In Brazil it is. But life didn't get much better… this place is still hell for gay people, disguised to the rest of the world as an open and accepting friendly place.
true!
-
Yes, it's legal in the US…although my state was one of the remaining ones that didn't have it legalized until the supreme court stepped in.

In Australia, we have one of the most open and inclusive societies in the world. We have the biggest gay celebration in the world. We have free adoption and IVF laws. For women we were the first country in the world to give women the vote. Abortion has been legal since the early 80's. While being gay is still not totally accepted by the whole country, it is most cities and most country towns, there is very few places left where you will not find out and proud gay people, and a lot of couples with children. We have all the same rights as straights do except marriage. Gay people are recognized as being in a DE FACTO relationship (any couple living together for 2 years or more) the same as straight couples. Which means that the government lists you as being a couple and will tax you as being in a couple, but when it comes to other laws they don't. For example, If my partner were in hospital, i am not listed as his next of kin. So his mother or father could refuse me from being at his bedside in the hospital. Problem is that for the last few elections we have had a conservative government who are split up the middle in their party, but around 75% - 80% of the Australian public are for gay marriage. They just refuse to vote on it. All our media debates it DAILY and still they refuse to budge. It does make me angry, but it will happen in the near future. On reading a lot of your posts and hearing that its still not accepted to be gay, let alone get married makes me feel for you people, makes me glad that i live here. DON'T GIVE UP!!!!!!

nope and frankly for me personally there are far more important issues to tackle in my book
i get angry when the government of this nation talks about having Same-sex marriage plebiscite
that's 600 Million dollars AUS that can be spent in other areas far more important.Australia is unlike the US , we already have firm laws that protect all its citizens , even before US legalised same sex marriage we had and still do have a lot of laws protecting defacto relationships that includes gays.
so the horror stories you hear about one partner dying , making the other homeless, doesnt happen over here.if people want to have a civil marriage , then just make it law get it over and done with , just don't waste money on this nonsensical issue that only benefits a privileged few.
marriage , be it same sex or otherwise has never had a trickle down effect for anyones rights. as an institution its based on unequal rights anyway,by its very nature its "we have rights afforded above yours".
to say it can have an effect on other areas is like using the failed statement and excuse that giving the upper elite more tax cuts means that wealth trickles down , that is bullshit , same as the bullshit that same sex marriage will be the panacea for all issues that non heterosexuals face.Have to disagree with you there. In Australia being "DE FACTO" does certainly not give you the same rights. My partner recently died of cancer and because we were not "married" i was not recognized by law as his next of kin. His parents never accepted our relationship and refused me to be at his bedside as he was dying. There are also several tax, superannuation and inheritance issues not covered by being in a "De Facto" relationship. Do some research before you enter such a technical issue.

OUI !!!
For here in France. There was a large & vocal minority against it.
Quickly after the law was voted, a very large majority is ok with it.And we saw many opponants to it that once invited to a gay wedding in their familly, attended without complaining.
There is even a case of a very anti gay marriage Mayor that 6 months later celebrate the wedding of its own gay son !!! :hug2:For those who say "i don't beleive in gay wedding", it's worth noting it's the last part that make us "good as you(straight)" :
Studies show a drop in LGBT teen scuicides… -
"Is gay marriage legal in your country?"
I WISH! LOL.
No really, my country is undeniably a hypocritical religion-based country, so I don't see any approval or proper acceptance (which is why I call hypocrite, because true religion teaches about love and caring for others) happening soon. At least not until 10 years from now. Which is disappointing, but a hard fact.In Australia, we have one of the most open and inclusive societies in the world. We have the biggest gay celebration in the world. We have free adoption and IVF laws.
…
DON'T GIVE UP!!!!!!Thank you sir! Thanks to you, Australia is now officially on my wishlist. Alongside Canada and some open European countries.
US used to be in it, but not anymore. I don't see the country accepting me there at least for the next 4 years of leadership. LOL. -
The way the current and hopeless Federal Government is here in Australia, I cannot see it becoming legal any time soon to be honest
Despite the majority of the populations saying YES, the Government asks for, and keeps delaying, a plebasite (not sure of spelling sorry) that basically will be biased against legalising gay marriage anyway. The voters here, and the other political parties, have all said NO to this, the plebecite thing, but the Government insists that this is what the voters want. This is going to cost the current Government a huge amount of money to hold, and in view of the current financial state or our country, well why do they want to waste more money when it could have been done, and should have been done by parliament decree or something, a long time ago. Hmm…go figure.
It makes me wonder why they keep delaying this issue, and then it disappears for a little while then it is brought back into the public eyes, and it all starts over again....
Why don't politicians listen to the voters, and just stop being hypocrites, and just get it done so we can have the same ceremony as the rest of the community?
Proud to be gay in Australia? Yeh right, I can't marry the man I want and he can't marry me, and yet if we were to live together, various Government departments recognise us as a co-habiting "couple", although that is only for their own monetary controls.
That's my opinion, so YES, let's get some sense into the whole equality issue, and just legalise same sex marriage here in Australia !! -
yes
-
of course not
-
It is not in Turkey, and it looks like it will never be

For women we were the first country in the world to give women the vote.
Sorry but New Zealand beat us to it in 1893, we were close behind in 1894 though.
And as for Same Sex Marriage in Australia, we'll find out on Wednesday I guess. I'll be glad when this shit show of a plebiscite is over.

Canada has the weird position that we had the first legally recognized same-sex marriages that predate our government recognizing same-sex marriage. Our fight was led by the MCCT (Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto) under Reverend Brent Hawkes performing marriages under a loop-hole in the law then fighting for years to have the weddings recognized.
I live in Toronto and know some of the people involved in the fight - including Rev. Brent Hawkes. I belong to one of the first synagogues in Canada to perform same-sex weddings.
