The Mummy (2017)
I give it 6/10.
The good: Naked Tom Cruise (Oh daddy!)
The bad: Too much Tom Cruise
Before watching the flick keep in mind that they're trying to reboot their classic monster mythos (with a dash of Justice League) so don't expect a re-imagining of the beloved The Mummy franchise with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. Sure it borrows some aspects, but quite liberally.
The action is fast paced and the scenes are crazy rad but sometimes I felt like I was watching Mission:Impossible, maybe there's too much action or it is not the kind of action you would have expected in the old Mummy movies.
And indeed, too much Tom Cruise…way too much Tom Cruise and not the naked one, sorry fellas. Sometimes I felt the movie time focused too much on Tom Cruise, his character talking and whatever...meanwhile other characters and the antagonist herself lacked exposition and development.

Signs you've gotten old: When he says re-imaging of the beloved The Mummy franchise and references the Brendan Fraser version. :blownose: :cry2: :blownose:

about The Mummy (2017), if you don’t notice me, i would never remember this film, cruise is a good actor but in this film. this film is totally lack of imaginations and mystery.
the old one is very classical and good.Apocalypto (2006 directed by mel Gibson) watch it on the plane
9.5/10story about the Maya period, Civilization and faith, Compared to the entire era of civilization, personal faith is more powerful. people lost in the different civilization and feel
small of lives. although the tiger-tooth chosen the forest finally. he must get the same fate like the old maya dynasty. old times is going farther the new world is coming.they are not killed by the big ships from Span, they are killed by the evolution.
as the title said apocalyptic no one can escape from it.

Blade Runner 2049: 10/10
My god what a MOVIE!
as a qualified sci-fi fans must say blade runner 2049 is not very qualified. too many slow motion and bad story. at last i even don’t know why it’s the end coming.
4/10.
3.9 for ryan gosling. -
the hell and high water (9/10) seen twice nowadays
amazing westland film, cowboy in the mordern life. it's a new viewpoint of life there. the life make a cowboy rob the bank, for sure them are not really bad men I would say. the modern economic rule killed their life. As the after said poor is like a desise it grows generations by generations. the actor need a change he need do something for his son. In his opinion if his son have well educated that must be a better future.
that makes me remember a song "mommas don't let your baby to be a cowboy". -
I just saw Bladerunner 2049 and this one i can rate simply. 65%.
Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, and Sylvia Hoeks acted very well. I was impressed by how mechanic/robotic the movement of Ryan was.
The world-building was internally incoherent. Some of the motivations were just plain stupid.
The ending did not work for me at all.

Thor 3 Ragnarok
A very funny movie with so mutch going on! Worth to see it!
8/10

It opened here today. I loved the acting. To think, The Goonies' actors used to be considered top quaility. These kids though… Wow. They make the story come alive.
10 out of 10.

Thor Ragnarok opened here today, omg, what a fun film. It was colorful, funny, filled with action and great costuming. The film really plays like a comic book. I think these types of films are more and more moving away from comic book movies into other genres. The New Mutants will be horror, Thor Ragnorok is comedy/action.
As a popcorn film 10 out of 10.

I saw the original (Japanese print) of Godzilla yesterday.
First the bad: It's a black and white movie where many of the scenes with natural lighting are difficult to see, Godzilla was screamingly obvious as a man in a rubber suit, likewise the models looked like toys, and referring to the Age of Dinosaurs as being 2 million years ago grated.
Second the good: There have been a lot of Godzilla films so I had low expectations about 'big monster rampage movie'. It not that at all. Godzilla shows up very late in the movie and is (blessedly) only on screen for a fairly short period of time. The focus of the movie is how the deaths and destruction affected the Japanese people. Characters talk about the evacuation of Nagasaki and the destruction of Hiroshima. There's one particularly touching scene where a woman is holding her three young daughters and telling them that "we'll all soon be with Daddy". There's some real emotion connected to the evacuations and hospital scenes. Some of the actors were very good. One of the main characters, Ogata played by Akira Takarada, was definite eye candy.
Third, my recommendation: This is likely going to be a film that only film buffs will like. But if you are a fan of the history of film you must see this movie.

I saw the original (Japanese print) of Godzilla yesterday.
Did you watch the version intercut with Orson Wells or the actual film the Japanese saw?
They screened it in Ginza a few years ago for it's 60th anniversary. The sole remaining cast member came for a Q&A. It ends up Akira Kurosawa was filming The Seven Samurai on the next lot over so between breaks the two film teams were on each other's sets.
-
I saw the actual Japanese version. One of the things I didn't mention liking - Godzilla's scream was top notch special effects even for now.
The American version intercut with Raymond Burr.
Who was the last surviving actor? Was it Akira Takarada?

I quite agree with you, scream effect (1954 version) is even much better than the 2014 reboot
Who was the last surviving actor? Was it Akira Takarada?
Yes he is still alive at 83

Yup, that was him.
On TV quiz show here, they showed that the roar was made by rubbing leather gloves over some kind of string instrument (I forget which one).
Oh, what you can find on the Internet.

New Thor movie. It's wonderful movie! Very funny. 10/10.

thor 3 5.5/10 the actor is not bad, i must say all of them are not really like a warrior to be. thor as a major god from the nordic myth is too much speech. as the nordic people especially male is always silent in the old days. if you want a faithful and reliable guide of nordic land, you should hire a man from iceland. they don’t speak a lot, they know all of the moaning of crater, the can walk a whole day, the master the skill of long distance walk. their body keeps static when they walk…..
marvel makes every actor to be a clown. the make more and more clowny hero clowny warriors, omg i cant pretend to love them anymore
i find chris hemsworth is more and more looks like a porno “Scott Ambrose”.but this movie is much better than wonder woman (4/10)and american captain3(2/10)
i watch this film with some acquaintances, after the movie no one talk about it, looks like we never watched it just now.

La Jaula de Oro (The Golden Dream) 2013
Story of 3 Guatemalan Teenagers and 1 Native Indian teenager who journey on to fulfill their respective American dream. Only 1 will be successful. A very compelling film. 7/10

Too slow. -
Some movies I've watched recently:
Thor: The Dark World (rewatch) 3/5
Love Hemsworth in this role, and there's some other nice stuff scattered around (Loki, Lady Sif, Darcy)… but ultimately, this one's just a big nothing of a movie. The Handmaiden 4.5/5
Very good erotic thriller. Gorgeous period setting, great performances by the two leads.Personal Shopper 4/5
Strange but good movie. Kristen Stewart really has that certain something. The special effects in that one scene look really trashy, though.Lady Snowblood 5/5
Just absolutely fantastic. Watch this if you like women warriors and/or revenge flicks. The Love Witch 4.5/5
Great visuals, and interesting acting choices. I like that the story leaves quite a lot open to interpretation... the broader themes are clear, but if you start thinking about it, the movies messages are really not that simple. The Neon Demon 4/5
This movie is all style over substance, and completely unapologetic about it. And it really does look drop-dead gorgeous, every last frame of it. Unfortunately, it also has a nasty, misogynistic streak.Nocturnal Animals 4.5/5
Great visuals and strong, intense performances. The story is maybe a bit slight, but the visuals and performances really do elevate it.Arrival 4/5
Very good cerebral sci-fi. I was ever so slightly disappointed, but only because it had been hyped to high heavens. I really shouldn't watch movies with expectations like that.
