Biggest Gym Pet Peeve
-
Which one of these are your biggest gym etiquette pet peeves? If you have one that isn't on here, include it in your comment
-
Standing in front of the locker for more than 15 minutes (usually a group of guys). Other people must get to their lockers and change as well.
-
Not reracking weights
-
In general, I don't even agree that every item in that list constitutes a violation of "etiquette."
I flex in the mirror to see my results, for a few seconds each visit. I only flex the muscle group that I was working on during that day (so biceps and back one day, just my legs another, etc.), and only for a few seconds. I'm not doing it in hopes I'll be noticed. It's to see the visible effects of the hard work, and remind myself that it's why I'm there. And that's it's working.
Something, on the other hand, that directly impedes the workouts of others? That's where I start getting ticked. Blocking access to the weight rack or trying to hog 2-4 machines or several dozens of square feet of the gym at once for 15+ minutes so you can get your super-intense circuit in is obnoxious. A workout that requires you to completely dominate 10% of the gym at any given time should not be done in a public gym at peak hours (between 4:30 - 8:00 ish).

Uh, I haven't been to too many gyms, and I'm really new to bodybuilding and fitness in general, but I do have a pet peeve.
Insanely loud music.
I tend to not like overly loud sounds, but one of the reasons I tend to work out from home is the idea that a gym might have huge speakers that they blast music from. It doesn't even really matter what kind of music they're using, even though I like some genres less than others. When it gets to the point that my ears pop from the pressure of sound waves from speakers, I just think "fuck it" and leave.
Has anyone else experienced that? I feel like I'm in kind of a minority here.

I'm pretty easy going but people obstructing the equipment because they're standing around and chatting is a pain.
Loud music can be a nuisance as well. I take my headphones and hope for the best.

-Guys watching you shower when it is open shower. They just look and pretend to shower! lol
-The guy that pick the shower next to you when it is an open shower (gang prison shower) when other showers are available.
-The guy next to you starts to soap his armpit and water splash near you.
-Steam room smells like ass or cum.
-A guy bending over naked and you walk right in front of the view (oh crap).
-Not sure what's up with the guy that blow dry his cock when he has a towel.
-You're sitting in the sauna and a guy starts to jerk off wtf… no thank you, not today
-stinky people.

I've been to gyms that play fairly loud music sometimes but as tuckstee mentioned, I've tried bringing in my headphones and put those in during my work outs. Sorry to hear your gym plays music that's so damn loud though.Â

I'm not a big guy… in fact I've just passed my first year at the gym.
My problem with going to a gym are those that think they are better than you and give you that look as if to say "why are you bothering?"
I choose to train with a P.T. because it helps keep my mind off the gym douche bags and concentrate on myself.
I don't train with friends because of my work hours and I end up training late at night,
One night I had this beefed up steroid thing stand right in front of me and pretend to flex in the mirror... but check to see if I as watching him.
When I moved... he moved too. That is my biggest pet hate. Sure... check your progress, I am guilty of the occasional flex myself... but don't shove it in front of others just to show off. I'm trying hard to get bigger as much as I can... leave me be.
If you love yourself that much... go home, get a mirror and use your left hand for you know what.

People not wiping the machines, after they sweat like pigs on them.

Ugh. There was one guy working out on a machine and his stench pretty much was given off in a 5 foot radius. He got off and I I could visibly see these huge droplets of his sweat covered on the machine. Did he go back to clean it? Nope….

You mean you're not into licking it off? hehehe
-
hate selfies at the gym

- When weights are all over the place, all mixed up, all over the floor, and I spend half my previous little workout time looking for what I need.
- When people put their towel(s) on equipment and walk away.
- When one person is using 8 pieces of equipment in a circuit, and nobody can use any of them
- When people don't put away the weights they were using.
- When someone is using a piece of equipment, where they could just as easily be using a different piece of equipment, when I need the thing they're using. e.g. when they use the customisable EZ-bar loaded up to less than 30kg, when there are pre-loaded EZ-bars up to 30kg in 2.5kg increments, need I want something like 50kg+.
- When they walk around all super-macho like they're god's gift, but really they come off looking like a tool.
-
hogging the equipment while using their phones.
