Huge filesizes from greedy uploaders
-
It has come to my attention that recently the number of torrents with unreasonable huge filesizes has grown.
For example, 1.5GB for a normal ~20min clip… hello?!?!?! ??? :fight:
Even a 45minute movie that is not HD shouldnt be more than 700MB!The only reason I can think of why they do that is for more seed traffic...
Can we do something against that?
Like a rule for reasonable filesizes or they get a warning/ban or something? -

Like a rule for reasonable filesizes or they get a warning/ban or something?I dont get what you are saying. Can you provide some evidence and factual information to this argument? Are there specific seeders you are concerned about who you feel are repeating offenders? And why create a rule for "reasonable filesizes? I mean, that's just ridiculous, in my opinion. Why limit anything on this site? It is here to provide and be used. There are those who provide - and there are those who use. In my mind, I feel like your argument is the following: you are a pony and you want the horses around you not to run faster than you. I don't get it. At least come with facts, specific trends you can point to, etc. – and make a better argument possibly?

i've noticed it a bit, but who really cares with the speed of internet and the lost cost of hd space these days. i download 1080p for movies and flac for audio whenever available. it's 2011.

:police: Please be careful on how you continue this discussion, as naming and shaming is not allowed here. :police:

...You give indirectly yourself another reason for big file sizes of short clips: High Definition (HD)
Many recent productions are done in HD definition and distributed in that definition formats. A 20 minutes clip in Blu-ray Disc quality can easily have 2 to 3 GB …

I'm pretty sure that the alternative to a large file wouldn't be a small file but no file at all.
Besides 'greedy' would be one of the last adjectives that I would associate with uploaders ???

oh you got served!

Perhaps the better place to start would be with the torrent URL of the torrent in question. Perhaps I could shed some more light on the matter with respect to the file size for the quality. I certainly would not be apposed to at least taking a look at an example of what you are talking about to see if you may have a valid point about something. If the file is an overly large size, but for example is an up-converted bit-rate version of an originally inferior quality film, I would be more than willing to say that the size of the file compared to its length isn't exactly fair to other users.
What it all boils down to here in this example is the actual root quality and format of the file as to whether or not it should be such a hideous size by comparison to its length. As always, I am more than happy to address any concerns that any user may have.

Im not sure which file the OP is talking about but I totally see what he is referring to. Look at this torrent for example: http://tracker.gaytorrent.ru/details.php?id=120399 it is 1.07 GB. If you look at the comments sections, another user gives a link to a 92 MB version of the same file. I wish I had seen that comment before I downloaded the 1 GIG file because the quality was about the same as the 92 MB version. I wouldnt have been annoyed but that file was ten times bigger yet there was no perceivable difference in quality. It could have been a honest mistake but I can see how this could be used by uploaders to increase their ratio.

Ok… Just to get an idea of what we're working with, what is the length of this video segment in this case?
-
The clip is 40 mins. All these Workin Men movies look like crap from what I've seen so there was no need for a 1 Gig version LOL.
-
File size has to do with the quality. And that not only with HD. Have different excellent working programs for converting files and creating own videos. You can convert all files e.g. mpeg 2 or wmv in several different qualities. Larger files have mostly a better resolution.
I'm a great movie fan (porns too - lol) and have over 2.500 films in my collection as DVD and VHS tapes. I don't have the time to convert them to avi or mkv container files. So I upload the whole DVD or an into DVD converted VHS tape.
My uploads have a large size. Mostly 4 GB per DVD. Have no seedbox and need often 3 days for a complete uploading. Have no interest to receive a high seed bonus due to a few donations from time to time. My interest is only to share my collection with other members.
Cheers, Norbert

oh.. I did not think I would upset anyone by starting this threat, for which I am sorry..
@Uwe:
You give indirectly yourself another reason for big file sizes of short clips: High Definition (HD)
Many recent productions are done in HD definition and distributed in that definition formats. A 20 minutes clip in Blu-ray Disc quality can easily have 2 to 3 GB …I might not have used the best wording, but what I meant was, that the torrents I was refering to were NOT HD, just normal SD (or low quality) clips/vids, that did not demand huge file sizes (1 or2GB)…
i've noticed it a bit, but who really cares with the speed of internet and the lost cost of hd space these days. i download 1080p for movies and flac for audio whenever available. it's 2011.
Well, I dont care about my speed either but I DO care about my disk space and I don't want to save files, that SHOULD be 400 MB, being 1.5GB and not even HD!
I didn't put any links here, because 1st, I didn't make any notes and honestly, I couldnt quite remember in which section I've seen certain torrents because of all the new files everyday (for which I am thankful) I can't find them at the moment..
Because I don't browse every category, I thought someone else might have had the same impression as me, and bitmania seems to tend to agree with me ..the last thing I wanted was to appear ungreatful for all the uploaders here! They are doing a great job, but as I said: some torrents were just unreasonable huge, and the only reason for that would be for getting seeding-bonus.. my only intention was to bring it up and see if anyone else feels the same …
additonal edit: just searched a few mins, and found 2 torrents (which I DID NOT download myself - but other users seem to complain about the torrent's unreasonable file size..)
http://tracker.gaytorrent.ru/details.php?id=120828
http://tracker.gaytorrent.ru/details.php?id=116325 -
another example, I just downloaded to verify:
http://tracker.gaytorrent.ru/details.php?id=118974it contains 2 clips: one clip is like 1.3GB big and runs only 30minutes!
The image is blown up to 720x480, but it was like 325x240 or so before, because I once had the "normal" ones, that were only 200MB big… -
… some torrents were just unreasonable huge, and the only reason for that would be for getting seeding-bonus..
There are no benefits - apart from seedbonus gifts from other users - for uploaders on this site.
You gain the same ratio- and seedbonuses by just seeding a torrent from an other user.
The only differnce for an uploader is to get seedbonus points from other users.
If the relation size/duration/quality doesn't meet the useres expectations he simply won't give
seedpoints. And your examples show exactly that.
(The only exception is your second example: A very rare movie with a duration of 90 minutes and a size of 1.8 GB.) -
I mean this as no disrespect but why not just upload a HD clip for us to show us what the "proper" size should be. Since it will be you first upload, if you can do it with no mod intervention, I will reward you 50-100SBP with my First Time Uploader Program.
If a torrent is too big for you standards for what you get by snatching it the…..just don't download it. Nothing sends a message to an uploader to upload something different than no one leeching it.
