Downloader Inspires Uploader to Take File Down
-
I just uploaded a torrent here and got an immediate response. It was completely negative. The user said that he was going to download my file, but not only did he not thank me for uploading, he said that since I was "begging for points" that I should get none.
I just want to publicly state that if anyone wanted Bulletproof 2 by Active Duty, I'm sorry, but I removed it. Blame (name removed) . And let that be a lesson to the (name removed) s out there. If you have nothing good to say about an uploader's work (that you have every intention of downloading) then keep your mouth shut or that uploader might yank the thing down.
Was it vindictive of me and did I cut off my nose to spite my face? Yes and yes, but it's the principal of the thing. If you're blatantly and belligerently ungrateful, that's what you get from me.
I'm just sorry I did that to jorart as well, who was probably looking forward to it. He actually thanked me. I didn't need seedpoints from him to feel his gratitude. It was enough that he thanked me. He didn't jump on me with unwarranted criticisms. He thanked me.
It was early enough in seeding so that no one drew down anything from me yet, so no bandwidth was wasted. Still, I am sorry, jorart, but sometimes the good have to suffer for the bad.
I stand by my decision. So I'm posting this as a notice as to why a torrent that was up is no longer there.
Naming and Shaming is not allowed here.

Thanks for that. You people really know how to make a guy feel welcome.
-
Well, he deleted his account. Oh well.
People shouldn't get upset over a single PM. If they have a problem with someone else, instead of naming and shaming, they need to contact a member of staff.
-
Oh my!
Well, since he posted the screen shot I might as well say that it was not my intention to make him go away.
Ok, maybe I was a little harsh and overreached… :-[
I could have been more sensitive and more constructive. Sometimes I don't consider that messages can come across much stronger than they are intended to be.
I certainly hope he comes back... -

If all it takes is one criticism to set him off like that, something tells me the boy has bigger problems. I wonder how he deals with the real world.

ballard1, your comments were right on the money. To look at the following, you tell me what movie this is:

Seedbonuses are VERY much appreciated.
Please don't be stingy. Thanks in advance._**
You can't tell unless you go to the link and read the info. yourself. Two of his three lines of text are "begging" for SBP! Just lazy.
I won't say anymore, but if you would like to know how I feel about this, feel free to read this topic.

twinkletoes,
I disagree on that.
Most people are too lazy to comment anyway. People who do most of the time have actually something to say. I've found funny or helpful comments. Or insightful and inspiring ones.
Just a few samples from my recent uploads…http://tracker.gaytorrent.ru/details.php?id=108471

http://tracker.gaytorrent.ru/details.php?id=110538I definitely like the comments section because it's a good way to communicate outside of the forum and in regards to a specific upload.
Sure, sometimes comments, like all actions, can have unintended consequences. I think this is all this thread shows. -
maybe we shouldn't get mad at people for asking for points. we can, after all, just choose not to give them any.
but yes, if he's that insecure or upset by a single message, then he has bigger problems

Don't want to sound rude, but following many of your posts - you would just remove everything from this site except the Download button.

This will not be the first disgruntled member I've witnessed. I won't call it a 'gay thing' because I've seen the same emotional outburst on non-sexual and str8 porn sites as well. There's a bit of Bette Davis in all of us. I speak from personal experience.

Well, then it should be required that, before they leave, they utter the phrase, "What a dump!" :cheesy2:

I am sure that you don't want to sound rude, but you are.
I am a great supporter of showing appreciation for an uploader's effort by using the
"Say Thank You! and give Uploader XX Seedbonus Points" optionIt is simple to use and many downloaders on this site do invoke it, unlike the "Comments" and "Rating" options.
As such, I believe it gives a far better indication of the value of an upload.
Whereas, in my experience, much of the "Comments" and "Rating" is snarky, serving only to antagonize uploaders.May I remind you that you made a similar observation: "the site has a 5 star torrent rating system.
Though we have to face facts - it is dead, no-one, or very few and very seldom, rates torrents
and no-one takes into account that rating when choosing a torrent to download."

Some uploaders have to be antagonized! Like the guys uploading files knowing very well that they are corrupted! This is not acceptable IMHO.
They are dumping unusable files on everybody just to improve their ratios. Now that we are all anonymous it's not possible anymore to single them out and avoid them.
Where else, if not in the comment section, can you voice your frustration?Wanna try an experiment? I have a corrupted file of a video everybody wants to see. I bet it will be downloaded like crazy. And then it's only a matter of time until the comment section fills up and the rating goes to zero. Ah well, I don't want to antagonize innocent downloaders…

Ah well, I don't want to antagonize innocent downloaders…First of all, my response was not intended as an attack on you personally.
Actually, it was prompted by some belligerent comments which I received in response to a few of my uploads.Corrupt files and other objective problems with an upload should be reported directly to moderators, in my opinion.
Just use the option
"Report Torrent Click here to report this torrent to staff for violation of the rules"My problem lies with the subjective comments.
As you said earlier "Most people are too lazy to comment anyway."
That makes the "Comments" highly skewed -
twinkletoes,
don't worry, I didn't feel attacked at all.
Sometimes I believe not everything can be handled by moderators. They didn't download the files themselves, so they don't know any better.
I think in cases like this, corrupted files, downloaders can deal with it themselves by commenting and warning others. Maybe it's also a good teaching lesson for everybody to actually read comments before they click on the download button. If others had a bad experience there is no reason to have it yourself.
I am sorry to hear that you had experienced belligerent comments. Strange. I rarely come across any of these. See my examples above. These uploads just keep on giving. In a good way.
Sure, Daddy Mugs or Jake Cruise always invite some snarking, but so what? Don't take it personally. Of course comments are always subjective and you might not like what you are going to read.
But now that you are anonymous anyway, why do you care? Nobody (except moderators) knows that twinkeltoes is responsible for the upload. If you want the name recognition then you always can add "uploaded by twinkletoes". Just kidding.

Thanking an uploader by giving points and using the Thank You button DO NOT indicate if the file is good or not, just that people thanked the uploader for posting the file. 99.99999999999% of all that takes place the second they decide to download the file.
The star rating and, mainly, the comment section are used once the person has looked at the file.
That is what I have seen over the last 4 years on the job here and many more years on other torrent sites.

Torrents with corrupted files need to be reported.
Staff will try the most possible to verify if the report is founded or not.
If yes, the file will be removed from the public list. This avoids more members to download these bad files.Just a plea, before reporting, try to be sure as much as possible it is not due to the software / hardware you use to playback (codecs installed, hardware DVD player don't play HD codecs or HD resolution, etc…)
