My upload wasn't gay enough
-
So I just received this loooovely message from Goateebiker, one of aour moderators:
"Your upload above will be disapproved. A Special GAY Story or relevance couldn't be detected. The one you have uploaded and has been approved has been revoked from public list, but you have leechers so you have to seed that upload to the end."
Seriously, it made me chuckle a bit when I first read, in capital letters, a Special GAY Story.
I tried to upload episodes of The Voice, and anyone who has watched or is familiar with the show knows that's completely untrue. But additionally, I raised a few questions and concerns in my reply that I thought were worth discussing. Here it is:
_"The show has quite a few gay contestants. It's the first time a show like this does not go out of their way to hide the constestants sexuality. They appear happily with their family and partners providing a very healthy image for the public.
I know your job is to keep things tight and running around here. But you should really look into things before getting to these kinds of conclusions. Seriously. Even more so, when you say a Special Gay Story wasn't detected. That just enphasizes the fact that you did not care to look into the show before making such conclusions. Sorry buddy, but it's a pretty ignorant remark.
Since we're on the subject, may I ask what is so Homossexually Special about Ru Paul's Drag Race? Really. Because to me, it is extremely insulting that gays, or even a part of the gay community is portrayed that way in National Television. Now, I bet you guys didn't even think twice about approving that upload, just because it has Drag in the name. Whereas a show like The Voice, showing people from the community, with REAL talent, bringing their family and life partners to cheer them on is not special enough? Why must we think that we're only represented when waving a fucking rainbow flag, dressed in rubbish clothing, and acting like fools?! Give me a break!
I think it is because of actions like that, that there's still so much difference in this world. No, I don't want to get too deep here, but to me, it's the little things that count. I would have never expected a moderator of a gay online community to send me a message basically saying, sorry, your upload isn't gay enough. Because that is the bottom line of your message buddy. And it may even be a little personal, because my first torrent was approved with no problems whatsoever, and clearly, not by you (probaby by Uwe, who is a total sweetheart, and super helpful btw)
Anyway, I don't know what kind of person you are. If your are the kind of person that will ban me for personal reasons, or for me expressing my opinions. I hope not. Seriously hope not. I hope we can all be adults here, but mostly that you try and understand what I'm trying to tell you."_

You'll never get any support from me with your blatant bigotry
Drag to you means no "REAL talent" and "dressed in rubbish clothing, and acting like fools"?
You recoil because "even a part of the gay community is portrayed that way in National Television"?
And you have contempt for people "waving a fucking rainbow flag"?
To me, it is your attitude that is "extremely insulting"
"the gay community" would have no rights at all were it not for the drag queens
Who do you think led the Stonewall Uprising? -
I'm extemely sorry. I didn't want to sound like a bigot at all. I have a lot of respect for the drag queens. In fact I didn't even talk about drag queens in general, but about that show in particular. They're just portrayed as catty-bitchy-divas. And I know for a fact that they're not like that, all the time. Their true talent is hidden by what netwoork executives think is going to attract more viewers. They are a lot more than that, is what I'm saying.
And maybe I should've phrased it better. But I wasn't talking about drag queens specifically when I mentioned the flag waving, rubbish clothing and fool acting. I was talking about how gay people are portrayed in general, in television. Not only on that show, but in many others as well. It contradicts the true meaning of equality, you know? What I was trying to say is that, not every gay person is either a drag queen or a charmingly weird character. I believe that we are only going to reach true equality, if that's even possible, when we drop most of those labels. Even between the gay community as well. We fight so much not to be defined by our sexuality in society, even though there are a million labels within the community. we should be able to embrace difference. I never thought I would hear that an upload wasn't gay enough. I mean, come on. To me, that's slightly ignorant. Not only for the statement itself, but for the fact that, yes, gays are extremely well represented in that show, in a very positive way.
Again, I apologize deeply if I have insulted anyone. And no, I wasn't looking for your support, buddy. But for your opinion. And I appreciate it. It actually gave me the opportunity to explian myself a bit better. I have a lot of respect for the Drag Queens, and I know how much they mean to the community.
I believe it's a shame, just because it's not an all gay stereotypefest cast, that my upload wasn't approved. And what's so gay about Game of Thrones, really? Ya know?

Well, I reviewed your torrent in the approval queue yesterday and coudn't see the Gay Theme or relevance with the description given by you:
The series consists of three phases: a blind audition, a battle phase, and live performance shows. Four judges/coaches, all famous musicians, will choose teams of contestants through a blind audition process. Each judge has the length of the auditioner's performance (about one minute) to decide if he or she wants that singer on his or her team; if two or more judges want the same singer (as happened with all but one singer in the premiere episode), then the singer gets the final choice of coach.
Each team of singers will be mentored and developed by their coach. In the second stage, coaches will have two of their team members battle against each other by singing the same song, with the coach choosing which team member to advance. In the final phase, the remaining contestants will compete against each other in live broadcasts. The television audience will help to decide who moves on. When one team member remains for each coach, the contestants will compete against each other in the finale."
Guys, this show is so much fuuuun! The chemistry between the judges is amazing. The contestants are all super talented. And this show does not hide their sexuality in order to not affect ratings. Anyway, I'm sort of obssessed with the show. And it's way better than American Idol!
I hope ou enjoy.
Not much about part of the participants being openly gay and supported by their family you evoke in this topic opening post … not to hide his sexuallity may mean not to hide to be straight
Because I am in Europe and could not see that show, nor can we download all the torrents and take a view before approving, I've left it alone, hoping a North American Moderator takes the decision.
There are shows like Glee we allowed, but are very boarder line, especially as we could not yet fix what makes something of gay interest in an objective and reproducible way.
I understand Goateebiker's decision to revoke the approval, seen the elements he got at his hands.
I'll download it to build me an own opinion.
-
IF we were to base what is acceptable to be posted here on the sheer fact that there's a fag in the show, then virtually every TV show on the planet would be allowed because there's been at least one GLBT in everything over the years.
We base our decision on what is allowed or not by whether or not GLBTness is a part of the storyline. As an example, there's an extremely gay friendly episode of "King of Queens" {and it's one of the few that made me literally laugh out loud}, but that is not enough GLBTness for us to allow the show to be uploaded here.
-
I totally understand the decision now. You have to keep things running smoothly here.
I just thought it could be a nice topic of discussion. But, since I've been called a bigot and stuff, I think we can give it a rest.
-
I have watched every episode of The Voice to date and I love it but there is no gay theme to it. It is about talented artist fighting to become musics next big "voice". Even though there are gay people competing, in the end the winner(hopefully) will be decided by their voice and not their sexual orientation.
Glee on the other hand does have a continuing gay story threads in it. It has an openly gay character "Kurt" who struggles to fit in outside of glee club. He is also being bullied by a closet gay football player "Dave" who kissed him once. There is another story arc with a closet lesbian "Santana" who is love with a closet bisexual "Brittany". Then there are the Warblers. So you can see that a show like Glee is very gay themed.
As far as Ru Paul's Drag Race…...they are ALL GAY.
I like alot of different types of shows and movies. Sadly I cannot upload them all here because most of them are not gay themed. It doesn't make them any less entertaining, it's just a rule I cannot break.
Finally xxzxxz, I don't think you are a bigot but I do find it kindof humorous the way you did that little hit and run in your first post. Let me paraphrase what I took away from it…
enphasizes the fact that you did not care to look into the show before making such conclusions
Mods should do all the work for me to show the gay content in my torrents.
…a Special Gay Story wasn't detected...Sorry buddy, but it's a pretty ignorant remark.
If you don't know everything about every show then that's just being a bad mod.
Why must we think that we're only represented when waving a fucking rainbow flag, dressed in rubbish clothing, and acting like fools?! Give me a break!
Drag Queens have no talent. and expressing yourself freely is dumb.
If your are the kind of person that will ban me for personal reasons, or for me expressing my opinions. I hope not. Seriously hope not. I hope we can all be adults here…
I blasted you personally but please don't ban me because we can talk reasonable as grown men…???
Here is an excerpt from the DO NOT UPLOAD thread http://forum.gaytorrent.ru/index.php?topic=3592.0
Movies of a gay {GLBT} theme, but not porn, do not count in the above restrictions and are not banned. HOWEVER, if you find a theme movie that seems to cross the line of basic common decency, please contact a moderator so it can be looked into. Also, if you are unsure about a movie you want to upload, ask a moderator
Goateebiker was not trying to insult you personally, he was just enforcing the rules. Nothing personal.
-
I know he was not trying to insult me personally. Don't think I'm a spoiled little kid, that is ranting just because people didn't do what he wants. The situation in general, just raised some things I felt I needed to question.
Like I said before, I totally get that the mods need to keep things running smoothly. I understand and do not take it personally.
About what you took from what I said, that's on you buddy. I will adress your paraphrasing points individually though, because I do not appreciate having words put into my mouth like that.
1. I don't think mods should do all the work to show the gay themes in my uploads. Actually I tried to show how GLBT fitted into the show (not as much as appreciated by the website, I get that). I was just trying to understand what would be enough, maybe. I think I do now. One question I raised, that people just ignored, what's so gay about GAME OF THRONES, really? It is not a gay show, it does not have gay characters or gay themed plots, and yet, all episodes are here.
2. I don't think Goateebiker is a bad mod. You're saying that, not me. If I have offended him, in any way, I would like to sincerely apologize. It was not my intention, and I now realize I may have gotten a bit caught up in my own questioning.
3. I was not going to adress this. Seriously. Because what you said is a bit sad. Sad in a way that, again, like I said before, if you're not a walking stereotype, you're either considered a bigot, or not a nice person. I respect this community very much, and I think I bring a lot to the table by not setling on being a walking stereotype. I refuse to behave a certain way because people think it's right or normal. I don't need to wave a rainbow flag in your face to say that I'm gay and proud of it. I do not need to dress, or talk, or act a certain way to show people that I'm gay and proud of it. We will never reach true equality, again, if that's even possible, if people continue to portray gay people exclusively like that. Especially if we're part of this community. And I'll say it again, I think Ru Paul's Drag Race does not portray drag queens positively. It is my opinion and I'm entitled to it. I will say, again, that I should've phrased it better in my first post/message to Goateebiker. The enfases on the word real, was not to take a hit on drag queens, but to phraise contestantsin The Voice.
4. I did not blast him. The hardest term I used was ignorant. In a sense of "lack of knowledge" (regarding the show uploaded to be exact). Ignorance is not something used to insult someone in my eyes. I'm ignorant about many things, simply because I do not know them well enough. The rule about uploading TV Shows is one of them. I made ignorant remarks too, simply because I did not understand the rules well enough. And again, my goal was not to blast him, and if I have offended him in any way, I apologize, again. Sincerely. I was blasted though. Was called a bigot…but anyway...
If people are gonna come in here, offend me, "paraphrase" what I write and simply make me look like a jackass because I have an opinion, again, maybe we should just give this discussion a rest.
-
??? umm ok. Rest in peace it is. ???
-
Anyway, I don't know what kind of person you are. If your are the kind of person that will ban me for personal reasons, or for me expressing my opinions. I hope not. Seriously hope not. I hope we can all be adults here, but mostly that you try and understand what I'm trying to tell you."
As has been stated before in the forums and is stated in the rules, everyone has and is entitled to their opinions. As such, you are entitled to express your opinion as well. Although your initial post may have come across to be a little "harsh" to some, I do not feel that it crosses the line to the point of "flaming". If you disagree with a decision that a moderator has made, or otherwise disagree with the opinion of another user, there is nothing wrong with expressing your reasoning behind it as long as it is not done in a "flaming" manner (no pun intended).
I can definitely understand where your frustration lies with this subject. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with this particular show, and as such, I would be unable to say right on the spot as to whether or not it would fit the criteria for being gay themed. That being said however, I can see about finding this show elsewhere and reviewing it myself to get a better understanding of exactly what the content is.
As well, please understand that not all moderators have the same knowledge about all TV series or themed movies. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to determine whether or not something actually qualifies as "gay themed" based on internet reviews. For this reason, it is possible in some cases for moderators to make mistakes. After all, just like you, we're only human too.
All of this being said, if you still wish to challenge this decision, I would be more than happy to find this content elsewhere and review it myself personally to formulate an opinion about it based on actually physically watching the content. Short of that, I would be unable to comment on as to whether or not it qualifies based on the information that I have (or rather, that I don't have).

Hmm… I was following this thread and started to wonder...
So what's with all the music uploads which clearly have nothing to do with GAY at all?
Just because a few gay guys like operas ... that doesn't make an opera gay or have a gay story line.
What's gay about the Rio soundtrack or Black Sabbath?
I see a reason for Lady Gaga but Vivaldi? What's gay about that?
Please enlighten me... -
I really doubt anyone of us can give you a reasonable answer, because we ourselves are not totally sure

I just was talking with another member and echoed the same sentiment.

Unlike video where you have a "visual" element, it is not possible to portray a "gay" theme in music, short of making gay reference in the lyric (if any). For this reason, it is not possible to classify music uploads, therefore there is no such restriction on uploads of music only. Music videos on the other hand are a whole other ball of wax and are a no no.

While this is true, there are plenty of gay artists/musicians/composers out there but very little to none of their music is on the tracker. For instance, I just browsed the first 200 music torrents and there was plenty of Lady Gaga of course, but I only saw one George Michael/Queen, one Eric Himan, one Culture Club, the Latter Days soundtrack, one NYC Gay Men's Chorus, and one Pet Shop Boys. There may have been others that I am not aware of. The issue I have is that most of the mainstream music is readily available for free elsewhere; I would like to see GT.ru focus on gay artists/musicians as their music usually can't be found on other trackers. None of Ari Gold's nor Mark Weigel's music is on the tracker. Hell, even Elton John only has one torrent here (yes, I know, you can find his music elsewhere).

The selection depends on the members uploading torrents.
