"Multiple account = termination" rule and wifi
-
So am I the only one who is afraid to log in to my account from any other connection except on my own phone's internet (using hotspot)?
This is due to the automatic rule:
"–Be aware that two or more account-holders using the same router/local network or allowing someone else to access their account on your internet connection will trigger this system [terminate both accounts immediately]."Just the thought of logging in using some wifi that also has had someone else use the site, e.g. at a hotel, after being a member for years and years, only to immediately be terminated…
Is a bit drastic and scary :-X

In the somewhat uncommon event that you would be tagged with two IP addresses, used at different times, you have an opportunity to explain your situation to the staff who contact you.
I maintain two residences, and use different Internet service providers when signing on to GT in different states. I believe GT's interest lies more in those members who maintain two or more "memberships" on the same URL and provider, which raises the possibility of a duplicate account.
Many times I have also logged on from hotel rooms, etc. To my understanding, they would be searching, instead, for the pattern I described above. Don't be anxious regarding your time on GT, as long as you're using it with honest intent.

If you get hit by the dupe account thing, use the Helpdesk to explain your situation.
Obviously, not all explanations will be accepted because we have heard some crazy things (not specifically about this thread).

don't ip addresses change after a router reboot?

Over the years I've had both dynamic and static IP addresses.
