Hundreds of porn copyright infringement cases have been filed, how many went to trial?
-
Of the hundreds of porn copyright infringement cases that have been filed ZERO have gone to trial, and obviously there have been ZERO convictions since the cases did not even go to trial.
I was correct, so all of the people who wish they could kiss my ass... will just have to kiss a woman with a gaping vagina and pubic hair like steel wool instead. -
@lololulu19 Copyright trolls tried their tactics in Canada, and were promptly shot down by TekSavvy Solutions. See, a while back Voltage Pictures decided to try to take TekSavvy Solutions (an independent ISP) to court and ordered them to disclose the identity of the subscriber of the service associated with different IP address they allege to have been involved in infringement.
Very quickly, TekSavvy fought back (and won), arguing that an IP address alone only identifies the subscriber of the service, but does nothing to identify the physical end-user of the device. They furthered this (and won) with the claim that an IP address alone does not verify that the contents were downloaded in their entirety, or that the content was transferred to other users.
So I am at a loss to understand why any ISP in the USA would be willing to just disclose their customers' information, without actual proof of their claim. This likely has a lot to do with why many of these cases never make it to trial. There is just not enough evidence that a copyright troll can collect to identify the physical end-user of the device used.
Just sayin'

@MrMazda Completely correct.. with one minor correction. You said "many of these cases never make it to trial". The correct statement is "NONE of these cases ever made it to trial"

@lololulu19 There is one that did. I forget the woman's name, but copyright trolls once tried going after a 93 year old grandmother because one of her grand kids downloaded something from her WiFi. The case ended up getting dismissed because they could reasonably prove that it was not the grandmother who committed the act.
-
@MrMazda Well. that is a little different... they were going after someone downloading inappropriate content... which is an ISP violation. If an ISP chooses to limit their content, they can. It's not because of any copyright infringement. Also, it seems the case was thrown out.
That is a real concern though.. because Biden is trying to pander for votes by offering to pay $43 billion to pay for everybody's internet. The problem with that is... if the government is paying for the internet - then the government controls the content of the internet - which is the exact opposite of what the internet is for. This is already happening in countries like Iran and China.I think I found that 93 year old woman. https://www.xvideos.com/video11278808/granny_93_yo_fuck_pussy_at_boy_35_yo

@lololulu19 Bahahaha.... The content in question was some sort of music, which is what most copyright claims end up being for. I don't think there's been a single case of porn that has ever stood up in trial thanks to the precedent that TekSavvy set for us here in Canada.

@MrMazda Yeah.. Lars Ulrich of DC/AC is the music nazi that killed the flow of good music.
-
@MrMazda I wonder if Mozart could sue Neil Diamond for copyright infringement of "Song Sung Blue"?
-
@lololulu19 said in Hundreds of porn copyright infringement cases have been filed, how many went to trial?:
Lars Ulrich of DC/AC
Lars Ulrich of Metallica suing college kids for using Napster is the reason I have never since the 90's listened to a single Metallica song, and will never do so if I can help it.

@hubrys Good for you!
By the way, artists make most of their money by TOURING. The record companies tend to steal the $$ from the recordings.Apple came out early on with a way to purchase individual songs. A very famous artist mentioned that when they signed up to allow Apple to sell his music, he got a check for $5.
