POWER USER clarification
-
Hi
2 things:-
My 'power user' status was droped to 'user' today. I'm a bit confused if the qulaifying ratio to restore my power user status should be 1.500 or 1.050 or 1.005 as the ratio consists of 4 digits. Which is it ? My current ratio is 1.029.

If i am only a 'user' status am i correct in thinking my searches wont display video files on full dvd rip file format (vob format) ? Is it the case these only show up in 'power user' searches while 'user' searches only display mp4 and divx etc format videos ?
Thanks for clarifying the situation
cheers

Become a Power User. This step is automated as well, after you meet 3 criteria:
You have been a member on our site for at least 4 weeks
You must have uploaded >40 GB
Your ratio is >1.05

hi thanks - yes i have read that but as i said what does my 4 digit ratio have to be : 1.500 or 1.050 or 1.005 to be 1.05 ? The ratio consists of 4 digits so the 1.05 doesnt make any sense to me . Are you able to clarify ?
cheers

@twinkerzzz I think the logic behind not letting new or low-ratio users download DVD's was that those were large torrents (at the time), 4-7 GB each...and that could irreparably sink someone's ratio if they weren't careful.
But now, with fast connection speeds, high-resolution cameras and screens, and cheap disk storage space, it's not unusual to see torrents with 10-50 GB of content, and these aren't restricted just to power users. If the intention of the "no DVD downloads until you're settled in" rule was to prevent people from screwing up their ratio, perhaps a size-based restriction would work better in today's environment.
(There are indeed times when size matters...)

Hi cheers -
oh i see - so you seem to be saying my searches will continue to display dvd-r content (vob file) and also allow me to download them even tho my 'power user' status dipped to 'user' status ? Could you confirm ?The reason i need to be sure is i am tagreting some dvd-r replacement for some of my own archived content at the moment and this project has caused my status to drop.
However, my ratio is very high and so are my reserve bonus points. But if i'm okay i wont spend excessive amounts of my bonus points right now restoring my power user status. I'll wait and carry on the project using my demoted 'user' status. But if that's not going to work then i need to know ....
cheers for any further guidance on the matter

Before that is one of the privileges of a power user, but with the removal of that category years ago and was included to all category it belongs to, anyone can download it if you are at par with your share ratio maintenance (but if the DVD format is freeleech, all can download it)
Still when you are a power user, you will have 4 free invites and can invite your friends

I'm not an expert or an insider here; I was only speculating on why the "no DVD for new users" rule might be there.
But I might make a suggestion: If your ratio is in trouble, I would hold off downloading from any large torrents that you won't be able to seed back--a DVD posted a long time ago with no other leechers won't give you the opportunity to upload it back.
To pump up your ratio, I suggest two things:
- Download a new freeleech torrent, and by "new," I mean something in the last hour. Your download won't count, but any upload will. This doesn't need to be something that you want to watch--the whole idea is to get upload credit.
- Download a very recent torrent that has many files, and select only a few (maybe 10-15%) to download. You'll get charged for the material you download, but the tracker will send other leechers to you to get the few files that you did download. If you have a good connection and leave your computer on, you can get a share ratio of 10, 20, or higher on that torrent alone. This will help your ratio.
Good luck!
