Can't port forward, how to get a decent ratio?
-
I realise the answer here might just be that I can't, but I thought I should at least ask. I can't port forward - I don't have access to my router settings - so while I am available to seed, I'm not getting many people connecting to me at all. Any advice on how to deal with this?

So if you're using a more advanced torrent program (like qBitTorrent), it "advertises" to the router that it's listening on a specific port. Newer routers can use this "advertisement" to "auto-create" the port forward.
If that doesn't work, look at a VPN that WILL detect this "advertisement" - like NordVPN.

@bi4smooth
Thanks, that's super helpful. I am indeed using qBitTorrent. I currently use ProtonVPN - but I assume that's not detecting the advertisement as I'm having problems. What do I have to look for in a VPN for it to detect the advertisement? I don't suppose it could be an option that I need to select in ProtonVPN is it? -
@valldelxeno you need to try the 'p2p' servers ProtonVPN has. It should work then. They have them in both the paid and free version.

Thanks, turns out though that I'm already on one of them. That being said, I am currently seeding to someone at 1MiB/s! That is rare, however...
