The Associated Press (AP) is racist

The racism is strong with this one.

First of all… how is this an issue? who cares what they capitalize or don't? and people accuse the left of being snowflakes....
Also, definition of racism:
noun The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
noun Discrimination or prejudice based on race. How are they discriminating whites or black by capitalizing "Blacks"? if you feel offended by a letter, you need to do some self-evaluation
-
Are they treating the races equally?
NO!!! They are not.
You would be extremely butt hurt if the did the reverse. Liberals never see things as a problem if it goes their way, but will riot and loot if it doesn't.
-
When you say "treating races" you make it sound like they are actively doing something in detriment to one or another race. They are treating a word…. a word..... different by capitalizing 1 letter
You would be extremely butt hurt if the did the reverse
Believe me, I would not LOLLL
There are many things wrong and things that need to be attend to in the world. Capitalization of a word is not top of the list

I agree with Raphjd on this one. Discrimination of any kind based on race, even with good intentions at heart (not that I believe the AP has good intentions), is harmful and eventually leads to resentment and racism.
If you read the article, many people take issue with it:
"Some proponents believe that keeping white lowercase is actually anti-Black, saying it perpetuates the idea that whites are the default race"'Kwame Anthony Appiah, a philosophy professor at New York University, wrote in the Atlantic that capitalizing white would take power away from racists, since their similar use “would no longer be a provocative defiance of the norm.”'
While capitalization, or non-capitalization, of any word is not the biggest problem right now- it can lead to it. Many American's apparently feel racism is the biggest problem in the US/world today. While it might not be the biggest issue, it's certainly high ranking. Why add fuel to the fire?

I totally agree with you on:
Discrimination of any kind based on race, even with good intentions at heart (not that I believe the AP has good intentions), is harmful and eventually leads to resentment and racism.
Not sure you can have good intentions when discriminating (in the popular sense of the word) lol
But the point here is whether people are being discriminated here as in 'to cause harm' or what not. And right, like you mentioned in the article, these people can have opinions on whether is ok to capitalize white is a bad idea. In my opinion, this is a non-issue. I think both words should be treated the same but whether one is or not I don't think is a major issue. Racism is an issue, not how we spell words. If a letter can lead to major turmoil then we have bigger problems than how we spell words
I agree that racism is major issue here in the US and around the world but when people talk about racism they usually mean whites being racists against blacks, or blacks treated different/inferior, or subjugated. Can this exacerbate the problem? Sure. Should we concentrate in fixing inequality and racism against races rather than how a newspaper spells "Blacks"? I think so
-
Why do liberals think that to solve racism, you need to be racist toward whites?
While it may not be a major issue by itself, it is another drip into the anti-white racism bucket.
And YES, liberals would have lost their minds if the AP decision was the reverse.
