Is possible to choose the sex of a child if done via surrogacy?
-
I heard it's possible but is it actually legal in America?
-
That sounds sexist as fuck. But if it's the US we're talking about, I can understand :blind:
-
There's nothing sexist about it. I would assume that in most Western countries, the split would anyway be 50-50, so nothing sexist about it.

Yes, you may opt for gender selection during the Surrogacy process if gender selection is permitted in the location to which you are entering your Surrogacy agreement.
In reference to a study by the International Federation of Fertility Societies Surveillance 2010, gender selection by either sperm sorting techniques and/or embryo biopsy is allowed by statute in only 15 countries, not permissible in 43 and not even mentioned in law in 15, but is adept by one or both methods in 26 countries out of the 105 countries surveyed.
Gender selection is obtainable through two methods for Intended Parents whose desire is to select the gender of the embryo enticed in their fertility treatment.
The sex chromosome originating in the sperm is the influential factor for gender. The first method is an experimental sperm-sorting technique, called Microsort. Unsuitably, methods to sort X (female) from Y (male) sperm are still imprecise due to limited parameters in current technology.
The second method is using IVF and PGD (Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis)

In the US its legal, but just one of those things that some clinics don't do.

The reason I support Wikipedia in my year-end giving is because its data are endlessly refined and updated by contributors from around the world (not that it, or any resource, is 100 percent).
With that said:

..and many related pages if you alter the words in your specific search.

One of my cousins was having infertility issues and by the time she was 25 had never gotten pregnant by her husband.
Since her husband is a major nuclear physicist with money running out his ears. They decided to have a designer baby made.
He came out perfect! When he was little he was as smart as a whip and was just as they had ordered. When he got to seven years old, they decided to do it again and have a girl with the same attributes.
This time things seemed to be going fine up until the baby was a year old. She started getting sick constantly. Things got even worse as time went on. Soon they were told she would never walk, never talk and most likely never be able to take care of herself. The doctors said she would never have maturity above that of a 5 year old.
Turned out that both she and her husband had a genetic code for a super rare disease that would only be activated by a female child.
The doctors said that if they wanted to try again that they could block it. But they decided the two were enough. If you have enough money, pretty much anything is possible. That and knowing the right people.

I know that this is done via sperm donation, but I'm not really sure if it's accurately possible. I don't like the idea of choosing the genders of the baby, but if you want to you can?
