I have heard of families (and friends) having coming out parties.
It is a bit much but feel like it is a great sign of progress.

Has anyone heard of these happening? Any interesting ones you've heard (e.g. Paris themed)? XD

I have hear of a few. A friend of mine had one where he came out to all of his friends at once. It was just a normal dinner between friends I find the whole idea a bit too much. Coming out is a personal thing that should strengthen the bond between you and however you tell. A party just feels less personal and more about attention.

Never heard about it. Where did they take place?

I find it like "too much", don't you think so? I mean, it is not like a "celebration" for the rest of the people. It is your personal celebration to be finally out to your family, friends, colleagues, classmates or whomever you are out to, but not to the point of celebrating a "coming out party".

Coming out parties.. well… perhaps if you're a teen with progressive parents and supportive friends.  Seems a bit over-the-top beyond those tender years.

However, if you have a Pinterest account, enjoy these pics of coming-out party foods, all deeply saturated with rainbow colorings that may or may not be carcinogenic...

Are these actually a thing? Legit the first time I'm ever hearing about "coming out parties".

I never heard of that.  Does anyone really need an excuse to have a party?  The idea of any kind of large group event to formally announce one's sexuality seems silly to me, but I think gender reveal parties are silly, too, so what do I know.  What if some of the people invited didn't know and aren't too happy about it or have a hard time dealing with it?  Is a party the best place to discuss it with them?

Is a debutante ball a coming out party for straight people?

I can understand celebrities making an announcement in some cases but even then, an event even as simple as a press conference seems unnecessary.

Like most of the guys here, I find a coming out party a bit too much.  It's like me trying to advertise my gayness to the entire world by fucking around with a guy in the middle of the street.  It's just too much and can easily backfire.  That's especially since we still live in a supposed "progressive time" where minorities and non-straight folk are sometimes treated worse than the majority.  I'm not saying it happens all the time compared to the 1950s and such; it's just that making a gay statement with something like a coming out party can easily rub even an understanding person or a person of the gay community the wrong way.

There is a comedy show that made fun of this, it’s british I think where the mother of the protagonist hosts a lesbian-coming out party, when in reality she’s faking it to avoid her mother finding her a husband. I think it’s called Miranda.
