I don't think the Chinese government released the virus on purpose. What I do think is that they didn't know how to control it, once the virus was released. And that happened in most of the countries in the world: no government could imagine (I want to think so) how terrible the pandemic was going to be.
Europe, for example, was not ready for this situation and didn't think it was going to be so dramatic. My country, neither. And Spain has been one of the European countries with more cases and more deaths due to the covid-19.
And I do not think that Europe or my country didn't "want" to control the pandemic on purpose.

How silly you think the Chinese government is innocent! They always put the stability of their power into the first place, the economy and the lives of people are less important to them. You should know how happy they are when the number of the infected increase in other countries, it's disgusting!

However, you cannot expect anything else from a country where there are no check and balances, and where there is no viable political opposition. Moreover, the ensuing disruptions in Europe, North America and elsewhere have only been bad news for the Chinese export industry. With global economy in chaos, China cannot stop its economy from slowing down. And when its economy has problems, the Chinese communist party faces increased pressure. So, I don't think they plotted to have this unleashed on the world.

If there is no trade war, you're probably right. But the fact is China was losing the battle with the US, which also will threaten to the economy of China. Then the virus spread around the world, it's just coincidence or a causal link? I think China want to punish the US government and trump, and of course, prevent trump Re-electing president by releasing the disease, they always think no trump, no trade war. They really like Hilary and Biden.

In general I agree, but at a basic level it's people who lie, not large institutions. That said, people in an autocratic government who will tow the party line to preserve their jobs and, in dire cases, their lives. We saw this with Hitler, very likely with Xi, and definitely with Trump.
