"I seed 24/7."
-
I often see torrents where the uploader says, "I seed 24/7." I'm wondering what this means. (I know that it means that the uploader's computer and torrent client are running continuously; I think many people do that.) It shouldn't mean that a leecher is going to get the files any faster: Uploading rule #4 says,
- If you are unable to seed a new upload, don't submit it until you can. If you are unable to continuously seed, please state so in the comment section of your upload to inform other users of the delay. You MUST CONTINUE SEEDING YOUR TORRENT until at least three or four other members have completely downloaded the file and can continue seeding for you. If you do not seed your upload within 3 days, it will be deleted and need to be resubmitted.
This asks for continuous seeding until other users are able to seed it…so it sounds like "I seed 24/7" means "I'm following the rules." That's good, of course, but what's the added value to including that statement? Perhaps I'm missing something here...that's happened before.

Firstly, that uploader is awsome!
The added value I see of adding "I seed 24/7" is it shows the uploader's consistency - I've never had a stalled or in-transfer dead torrent from him. He shares high-quality scenes from numerous studios and a search for the signature brings up all his past uploads. It is a signature, and a good enough reason for him to keep it in his posts. Also when looking for scenes I sometimes want to cut to the chase and select from his uploads before browsing the rest.
But really, when I first took notice of his uploads he started out with a slow connection. So when a torrent was seeding at 200 to 500 kB/s members knew to keep their clients running.

It should also be noted that there is a difference between seeding ONE torrent 24/7 and seeding hundreds of torrents like I do. The more torrents you're seeding, potentially the slower each person's connection will be, depending on your upload speed.

The "I seed 24/7" uploader has always intrigued me.
This member uploads SO many of the major studios, and does this in multiple resolution sizes, and does it with AMAZING regularity. There are some Sunday uploads you can almost set your watch by, happy lol.
I even wondered if this Uploader was, in fact, associated with the site itself. The rationale being, that members come back to a dependable torrent site for these popular studios. And the cost of, say, 10 major website memberships would be a small investment relative to GTRU and its thousands of members.
Of course, this is just idle musing. Assuming it's the work of an independent individual, we are all endlessly grateful for his commitment and the contributions. But, it could also be the work of horny space aliens. In any case, thanks.
(P.S. Including more picture sets from the 24/7 collections would be a real bonus!)

You know, trackers do use bots these days. They attach some sort of seedbox or high capacity Sans drive, and start automatically grabbing and posting. Not sure how common it is among porn sites tho, as gay content is probably relatively low in comparison to mainstream content.

When I started this thread, I thought that the phrase "I seed 24/7" was a generic tag used by many people. After doing some searching, it would seem to be one user (or bot), as the torrent descriptions all start with "I seed 24/7 MEDIAINFO:"
I'm still not sure what the value of that phrase is: It might have true when the torrent was uploaded, but there are lots of torrents on the system with this tag that are dead (meaning nobody is seeding them)–some as recent as a week ago. Of course, saying something in a torrent narrative isn't a permanently binding commitment; at the very least it means that the user is continuously seeding the torrent after uploading it, which is required by rules anyway. If, though, the user is seeding hundreds of torrents along with the new one, it's going to be a slow process (as MrMazda notes above).

@eobox…
The "I seed 24/7" person/entity is so gracious/automated with his/its many contributions, it does sometimes result in a slow seedling speed.
I think the phrase is simply added as a guarantee -- a warm blanket, if you will -- to the downloader regarding these posts, and really doesn't go much deeper than that. :hug2:

I'm new to this, if I am seeding something and it shows 0 B/s, am I really doing anything?

That means no one is actively downloading from you. However, it also means that you are making the file available for download when someone does want it. You earn 0.5 seed bonus points per hour that you are seeding, whether or not anyone actually downloads from you.
There are a LOT of torrents on this site and many of them only get an occasional downloader.
Be careful about downloading anything that is not freeleech right now to avoid getting in trouble with your ratio.

Thanks for the info! How come sometimes when I'm seeding, the site won't register it as I'm seeding a file and it'll just go back to 0?

My understanding is that the site only accepts updates to user statistics at intervals of 30 minutes BUT sometimes there are delays and that if you pause a torrent, close and re-open your torrent client, experience an internet interruption, etc., the timer is re-set and data might be lost and never reflected in your statistics.
In regards to upload rate in particular, what you are experiencing is probably from the reporting delay and I think the rate reported on the site is never real-time.
