      Hi

I am wondering if it is possible to stop people adding images to torrents I have uploaded?

I'm having a recurring problem of someone who is uploading crap to one I've uploaded. Yes the images are from the videos but they add nothing as they are so similar to the ones I've already uploaded. Also whoever is doing it uploads the same images repeatedly so you have a several identical images in a row. None of them improve the information for someone who might want to download the torrent. All the do is make things much less clear.

I do take care with the torrents I upload. I put the best most illustrative images that I can. I add very informative descriptions. It is very annoying to have this messed up in this way.

I've had a similar problem, but perhaps not as extreme as what you've seen.  Maybe you could "report" your own torrent, saying that you uploaded it, but that somebody else spammed it with the useless pictures.  If a Gentle Moderator weighs in here, his advice would be best.

It sounds like you're a conscientious uploader who takes care to make his uploads useful to others.  I hope the bad behaviour of some doesn't discourage you from future uploads.

There are rules against 'Picture Spamming'.

I had a similar issue (people uploading pictures from different video) and the help desk got me sorted very quickly.

Well that is interesting and I am going to investigate.

I think it would be hugely better if the site just stopped allowing people other than the origninal torrent uploader to add pictures. This is just a big load of hassle, I had another dose of crap pictures today actually.

The whole thing puts me off uploading torrents in a big way. I have actually uploaded many torrents, I have 58 in the "my torrents" page at present. All of them had very good pics, first class descriptions and are in most cases new material to the site there are absolutely no collections of material already here.

This picture spamming business is really making it unlikely that I'll be uploading again to be honest.

I also object to other people putting categories on my uploaded torrents because they just put up wrong categories.

The simple answer to all this is to stop other users being able to modify torrent uploads in this way. I can't see anyone who actually cares about the quality of the information they provide being happy with having people then mess with it.

Having uploaded a torrent I don't want to have to keep revisiting it to see if it has been abused or not. I don't want to have to go get moderators to try and stop idiotic abuse of what I've uploaded.

So, to be honest, I think I'm probably done now with uploading torrents, certainly for the time being. However I will read up on what actions I can take.

Surely it would be possible for users to have an option to stop other people from modifying the web-page for an uploaded torrent? That would be excellent if that could be introduced.

My issue isn't so much they idiots upload pics that don't enhance the file description, but that the images get sorted to the top of the field, pushing MY pictures to the bottom. If there was a way to sort "member added" images to the bottom and leave mine at the top, I wouldn't care as much.

If a member is uploading a torrent, he should post 10 pics (must not be generic, dupe, very small pixel or blank) and the system will automatically lock the post additional pics note.

As for the arrangement of the additional pics posted you, can suggest it here

As for generic, dupe or blank pictures added, you can report it by clicking on the torrent, scroll down and click "Click here to report this torrent to staff for other violations of the rules".

Well thank you for this information.

Sometimes there is no need for ten pictures to illustrate content. It is better illustrated with five. It really is about the quality of the pictures chosen.

I think you would be far better to stop people being able to add pictures to uploaded torrents, or at least make it possible for the uploader to turn off that possibility.

People that care about giving the right information and providing good pictures often don't want their torrents messed with in this way. I think that you should encourage people that care about what they are doing not dissuade them.

You need to allow people a sense of possession of what they are doing. It is one of the basics of good employment practice. If you take away people's ownership of the quality of their work you dissuade them from doing good work.

As you read my comment you might be thinking "don't tell me how to run my torrent site" etc. Well that's because you care about what you do and have ownership of it. People who upload the torrents often feel the same way about what they are doing. They don't want random people messing with what they've done.

As I've earlier replied, system will lock the post additional pics post if the uploader have posted 10 pics upon uploading a torrent.

Okay, thank you for replying to my comment. I am coming around to thinking that the ten pics lock out is actually probably quite a good way to do this. It does mean that I will have to upload at least ten pics but that is not a great hardship.

As a general rule, if you add at least 10 pictures to the torrent, further uploading should not be possible.

If one is sharing a rather short clip, ten pictures might start to look repetitive…but I think many users and most moderators would understand that if ten pictures are uploaded, it's intended to prevent photo-spamming.

I find the "take a snapshot" button on VLC player to be a handy way to capture images.  I'll put the video on pause and then move the slider to a particularly good frame.  I confess to having a weakness for seeing a blast of cum in mid-air.   :cum:

Print Screen works well also. 🙂

Well I agree that for many uploads three pics is ideal. What matters is having the right pictures. Often I see uploads with loads of pictures but none of them give a good idea as to content.

I have used the VLC snapshot facility but actually I prefer to use a thing called xScope on my Mac. With this I position a rectangle over the video window and do the grabs that way. There are lots of way to do it but this has advantages particularly I can easily not include a margin all around by simply making the rectangle a little bit smaller than the window. With many videos this produces a better image because often there are problems at the very edge. Depends entirely on the content being snapped of course!

Sounds tedious. Doing screenshots with VLC or dedicated contact sheet software is way more comfortable.
