Would you agree that gays IN GENERAL are attracted to "their own kind"?
-
Meaning that a twink will most likely be attracted to another twink.
a muscular guy will most likely be attracted to another muscular guy
a middle-eastern to middle-estern
etc, etc… you get the idea*Of course there are exception but I'm talking in general
-
I've noticed two big groups.
There are the gays (and bisexual men) who are largely attracted to "their own kind". I see plenty of boyfriend twin couples out there.
https://www.buzzfeed.com/ryanhatesthis/the-new-boyfriend-twins-tumblrBut I can't agree on the "in general" part since there also a lot of people who eroticise "opposites attract". I see a lot of Daddy/Boy couples. I see a lot of people how only date outside their race. I see a lot of butch/femme couple.
-
Personally I am always attracted to older guys with bellies and body hair, even though I was not yet this "kind" of guy. I mostly believe that there are the classic standards of beauty that people are mostly attracted too, like nice hair, lean bodies etc.
-
I don't think in general gays are attracted to their own kind. It's not like that they go out on purpose looking for someone who is the same as them to get with. It's probably just a coincidence that they end up liking someone who looks similar to them, if that makes sense
-
Well, it's rather common to see gay couples that resembles each other, and that seems to happen way more often than in straight couples that's 4 sure. I believe these people generally go after partners that are similar to them because in my experience i see many gays that don't tolerate differences very well (the irony!) and are very strict in their tastes for people.
-
Of course, people are attracted to their "own kind".
I would never be with a person who hates dogs, for example.
I could never be with someone like Nathan Lane's character in Bird Cage. Likewise, I couldn't be with a leather head or a 90s bar queen (you know the outfit).
-
Not really. I am into hairy guys and I have no hair
-
Psychology says yes, even physically people chose similar partners (face features).
But in the gay world there are also these imperatives on how you must look, so i have a feeling there is a certain physique that everyone is after. Muscles, hair, beard, +-bearish type with a masculine babyface. So you either have to be their clone or a prototype clone. Just fucking amazing. ::) -

I'm into twinks but I long since ceased being one.
Though I'm into gays instead of straight men, does this count?
-
I think cultural identity has more to do with your selection of partner (or fuck buddy) then what he/she looks like.
-
To add in a probably horribly misinformed observation, the reason why gays are into "their own kind" is probably because unlike with straight attractions, if you like a certain type of guy, you can be like that kind of guy if you work on it. e.g. me, who is a smol boi, but would rather work towards being a bear one day
-
Nope.
There's many factors that can play a role in having a preference, but I hardly think that "being of the same kind" is a real factor. -
No, I don't think so. I see a lot of couples that look very different.
When I do see couples that look like twins they tend to fit a certain aesthetic that's generally popular

This is a really good point. Attraction has a physical and a mental component. If we say "to our/their own kind" we are implying many things here, not just physical attraction.
I have felt physically attracted to guys of age groups, racial groups and body types different from my own. But normally is their attitudes and interests which seal the deal…or break it.
Now...the look-alike boyfriends...that's really scary as it makes me think of overly narcissistic and overly dependent persons or that our beauty fashions have become homogenized, and mass produced and distributed.

The above is very true, I think. But it also depends on what kind of attraction you're taliking about. There's a mighty big difference between the guys I only want to fuck, and those I want to have a romantic relationship with. The number of guys I find physically attractive is very wide indeed, whereas they guys I fall in (real) love with is much smaller. This is where the mental component mentioned above kicks in, and is more important than the physical aspects. Let's face it: looks come and go. The inside traits last a lot longer, for good or ill.
On a strictly physical level, I would say many guys are attracted to opposites just as much as similarities. It seems that we are fascinated by what we are not. Personally I have a thing for hairy chests, but I myself have none. I'm also very white skinned, but I find darker complections - ranging from olive to French Roast coffee - really grab my attention. On the other hand, if a hot blond-haired blue-eyed guy wanted to fool around I would be into it. Lastly, I also find that my taste in guys has evolved and expanded as I've gotten older, meaning that types I wuldn't have especially paid much attention to as a young guy now get a rise out of me.
All this means is that people are complicated, and simple dichotomies (or non-dichotomies?) in taste don't fit comfortably in real life.
-
personally I wouldn't ever want to bang someone like me. I'm a tall top and only into small bottoms.. . .
-
it probably has to do with what is viewed as attractive in the (sub)culture you grow up in (which changes over time). Combined with personal preferences that will produce arbitrary combinations of your own, let's say, type and the type you are attracted to.
As an Asian raised in Europe, I find Asians particularly UNattractive :blind:

some-how-yes..but-mostly-depends-on-attraction.

I think people are just attracted to who they are attracted to. However, gays have the unique experience of the people they want to fuck and also want to be like themselves often mixing together and being the same. Because of that, some gay men will pick partners who look similar to how they want to look themselves, which can lead to the "twin" boyfriend look.
