When GayTorrent.ru moderators removed a duplicate torrent, The original torrent is then promoted or "bumped" into the NOW date and will have an icon like this ♺.
BUT the original upload date will still remain visible in the first line of the torrent description.
e.g
Description Original upload: 2010-09-27 |In cases where both torrents have been uploaded on the very same date, the moderator will then consider the time, each torrent has been uploaded.
So, to those uploader whose torrent have been removed as duplicate, please read CAREFULLY the description of the original torrent before writing in the Helpdesk.

That makes perfect sense. I have not yet tested it out to see if this is what actually happens though.
I fear that sometimes an old torrent on the site gets buried, and someone uploads the same file again with a new torrent. The new torrent gets reported as a dupe and is removed - but I don't think the OLD torrent is getting bumped OR the OLD torrent is getting bumped, but nobody is seeding the OLD torrent.I can't think of a way to get the OLD torrent to point to the ACTIVE (duplicate) upload.
I suppose one thing that would fix it is to not delete the duplicate torrent unless someone is seeding the OLD torrent. For instance, it makes no sense to BUMP a torrent that is 2 years old that nobody is seeding.

For better understanding, according to Uploading Rule #2
DUPLICATE files are not allowed and will be removed. You are expected to run a search for duplicates prior to submitting a torrent. Duplicates may be accepted when part of a themed collection. A file is considered a duplicate if an existing torrent has the same format and similar size (<10% difference) and has at least one seeder.
Both torrent should have at least one active seeder, in order for a mod to remove the dupe torrent

Yes, but if the old file is not bumped, or is sitting hidden in the "dead" zone, then everyone loses.
Ideally, the new uploader would be made aware of the OLD torrent which contains the same files, and sent the link to that old torrent.. so the new uploader could download the old torrent, rename his files accordingly, and point that old torrent to the files already on his drive. That way, the new uploader would be a new seeder, and the file would be bumped, and everyone would be happy. -
Thank you!! Can't believe how many times I've come across a hot torrent only to discover it's merely a duplicate, sometimes under a different name. Very frustrating.

Whenever I upload something, I make sure it isn't here already.
One recent duplicate I uploaded was due to the fact that someone else uploaded the file without spaces, so I couldn't find their version.
For instance.. they titled theirs "BarebackRookies" and I titled mine (correctly) "Bareback Rookies".
I have a solution for that. Whenever has delimiters in their descriptions.. search on BOTH the individual words AND the words without the delimiters. So, in the above example.. the title I entered would be searched for both
BAREBACK
and
ROOKIES
and
BAREBACKROOKIESAlso, everything should be converted to uppercase (or lowercase) before a search, so that
Bareback
and
BAREBACK
are seen as being the same wordI've also had problems where something I uploaded that was not here.. suddenly gets bumped out the dead files from 2 years ago.
I must have forgotten to check the dead files before uploading that one. -

There's also a grey area when some films get released under different names by parallel studios. For example, Irrésistibles (Clair Production, 2006) is the same as Bareback Wonderland (Raw Entry Club, 2006). If an uploader posts one of these, and the other one is already here (same format, same size), one could argue whether or not it's a duplicate. Sometimes if I see this happen, I'll post in the comments section that the film was also released under the other title, so people don't download the same thing again. This can get a snarky comment from an uploader insisting that it's not a duplicate, but I can handle that.
A good source for checking if something has been released under multiple names is https://gayeroticvideoindex.com. It's also a good resource to find other films from one of your favourite models, even if he appears under multiple names.

That way, the new uploader would be a new seeder, and the file would be bumped, and everyone would be happy.Well, in theory, but that doesn't always work…the "new" dupe torrent would not only have to be the precise file size as far as bytes size-wise, but it can also depend on how the rip was done and also which program was used to rip it. I've tried such a thing and it has never really worked for me…if the dupe torrent was ripped with a different program, then it can more likely be impossible to simply use it to seed the older torrent. Even a variation of settings in the ripping program can cause indiscernible differences which make it impossible to use it to seed the old one...even if the file size is precisely the same, believe it or not.
If, however, the dupe torrent happens to be the exact same upload which someone either got somewhere else, or downloaded from the old torrent and simply renamed it, then it can usually work. Simple renaming of a video rip file, or a torrent folder for a pack or full disc, doesn't seem to make much difference in seeding issues for re-seeding on an older torrent.
My thought is, depending on how long an older torrent has been dead, as someone else said in this thread the new torrent should be the one to be kept and the older one deleted, simply because (as someone else said) unless there is at least one person who can seed on the old one, the old torrent may never be able to be re-seeded if no one still has the original files or files. If the old one has been dead long enough, that should be deleted and the new one kept.
I don't know if it could be done here by whomever handles the script for this site, but I've seen other sites where, when someone goes to upload a torrent and has filled in the information for their torrent upload, the site system automatically searches and checks the site to try and find a match for an identical torrent, and if it does, it gives an alert notice to the uploader.

Got really annoyed right now, I had a torrent at 98% for several months now and it is dead. It was ISO dvd file. Went to ask for a reseed today and noticed that someone had recently posted the same file but unpacked the ISO to VOB. The file is exactly the same size, but instead of seeding the old one they posted a new one.

iso file is pointless compare to [vob] even though same DVD…
if file is gone it is unrecoverable

Comparing ISO with VOB, their main similarity lies on where they are directly associated with – DVD discs. ISO is a disc image file while VOB is the main video file found inside the disc. However, extracting the VOB file and converting it into an easily playable video format is also possible. -
MPC plays vob files doesn't even need to convert it.

I had a torrent I uploaded deleted because the file sizes were similar, but I posted an ISO I personally ripped and the other was a pretty much dead Video TS upload.
Go figure. So Now I have to be careful to upload only if nothing is remotely similar in size.

@kalayaan when the original torrent is bumped.. and the new duplicate torrent is removed.. does that take into account that perhaps nobody is seeding the original torrent?
