“All About Love” - Maurice White (1941-2016)
“…you are as beautiful as your thoughts…and if there ain’t no beauty, you got to make some beauty…”–“All About Love”
Over the many years of many hits--from That’s the Way of the World (1975), and Head to the Sky (1973)–“All About Love” and “Keep Your Head to the Sky” have always been at the top of a long list of my favorite recordings by Earth, Wind & Fire, ever since hearing them for the first time…almost 45 years ago!
A decade later, during my junior year at Cal, I saw them at what was then the Oakland Coliseum. Without a doubt, it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen--with solid performances all around, great special effects and props, plus bits of “magic” tossed in throughout the show!
I was surprised recently to find Maurice White on an obituary list of notables, and a little more bummed today for some reason, after seeing it mentioned again.
Rolling Stone…
Songs that bring on a feeling of melancholy with nostalgic memories of high school dances and house parties–hearing them right now, there’s sadness as well with the loss of Maurice White “…in peace” (1941-2016)
“All About Love”…
“Keep Your Head to the Sky”…
His passing was definitely a surprise. As far as "too soon" goes–as I get older and see those I grew up with pass away with more frequency, and those dearest to me--Bobby and my mom at 79 and 80...yes, 74 is way too soon!
