I need a good video conversion software
-
Currently, I'm using Any Video Converter software to convert any videos format. Though its free, it takes times to convert a big file into another format. And not forgotten, I need to set the video resolution each time before converting. Normally, I only want to make it same resolution as the original video. So, I need you guys to suggest to me a free video conversion software that is more convenient for me to use. Any ideas?

Just started using Handbrake, and find it good

I think you'll find most converters will take time with a big file.
A lot might depend on what you want to convert and to what and where you want to play it.
Since I bought a TV which will play most formats directly from a USB stick without conversion I haven't used my programs.
Ones I still keep handy are TMPGEnc (which has an added bonus if you are converting from a DVD - it asks if you want to copy the file to your hard disk, yes, please and it is now my first call to rip a DVD).
I used to use Main Concept a lot but not now - not quite sure why.
And the ultimate DVD maker ConvertXtoDVD - you can throw almost anything at this and it will burn your movies into an authored DVD.
They are not free but I don't recall paying for my versions

I've found AnyVideoConverter to be quite handy when running Windows. If you wanted to lure away from the dark side of Micro$oft and make the switch over to Windows XP, I would be inclined to recommend either Avidemux (GTK+) or my other favourite, OpenShot Video Editor. They both seem to work wonders for me in Ubuntu Linux.

avconv (formerly ffmpeg) converts pretty much anything to anything, but it has no user interface, so you must be familiar using the command line.

One I'd completely forgotten about until last night Super
It's not the easiest, even the download is not straightforward and you have to have some knowledge of converting. But I have had success with it where everything else has failed.
If you can't get it via the web site the direct download is http://zlexopalvim.gotdns.org/GetFile5.php?SUPERsetup.exe (66MB)
All the usual cautions apply for downloading an .exe file but my AV found no threat

based on Handbrake but far easier to use and a lot quicker is VidCoder , also free .

Get a torrent of Adobe Premiere Pro from a torrent website. Premiere has this nifty program called Adobe Media Encoder, which is amazing, it can convert as many files as you want, from almost any format, to almost any format. And its fast.

Believe me AVC is much easier to use. Almost all videoconverters will work on your processor's speed while only AVC makes optimum use and does not hack your system like Handbrake and others… I've tried all out there. But for me, video conversions ain't the right thing to do unless you want your video to be portable. I'd rather keep my videos the way they are. Videoconverters do more harm to videos than repairing them.
