What Bernie Sanders did to Russell Vought is deplorable. He called Vought "islamophobic" for believing that only Christians are guaranteed eternal life and that all else will go to hell. First of all, it's Vought's right to hold that belief. Second of all, that belief is not "islamophobic." The overwhelming majority of Christians believe that Jesus is the only savior and believe in Hell; therefore, Bernie just called the overwhelming majority of Christians "islamophobes." I am a Christian and I am not an "islamophobe," Bernie. Third, what the hell does Vought being a freaking Christian have to do with his nomination by our president to be the deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget? We do not have religious tests in this country and Bernie subjected Vought to a religious test. I already was never a supporter of Bernie but now I'm speaking out against him. He owes Russell Vought an apology and he owes an apology to Christians around the world.
I would like to have a civil debate on this without childish irrational comments or deflection/derailment because this is an important argument about religious hypocrisy on the left

Men like Bernie Sanders (and yes, Trump too) are privileged and have a position from which they can bully others. The difference is, no one is afraid to call Trump out but the left protects their own bullies.
If someone is Islamophobic for saying such a thing, then are not Muslims Christianophobic for believing the same thing towards non Muslims? (as an aside, spell check doesn't recognize Christianophobic but does Islamophobic)
Even more so isn't it a hate crime that many Muslims believe Christians should be killed? (mostly in Islamic countries.)

I wonder who gave you the thumbs down?  Probably Mr. Thumbs Down Sutieday.
Something you left out is that it's interesting that Bernie has such a problem with Christians.. when he is one of the so-called "chosen people" a Jew.  Anybody picking on someone who is Jewish gets branded as being "anti-Semitic", and yet, they don't shy away from condemning other people.  I can think of a lot of great jewish people.. who are great.  They are non-practicing jews, lapsed jews, etc.  People often fail to distinguish ethnic jews from religious jews.  The Jewish RELIGION - as other religions - is crap.

You are confusing completely different topics.

FIrst, is freedom of religion. You are free to believe whatever hateful thing you want to believe, and Bernie never said otherwise.

Two, is the right to criticize other religions. I, and Bernie ,can look at the things you believe in and state our own opinions about them. We do not have to apologize simply because you disagree.

Three, and this is the big one- you think "Freedom of Religion" automatically makes all beliefs no longer bigoted. That is just not true.

Mormons used to believe that black people could not be in the priesthood, so when they die they don't get their very own planet like white people do. That IS racist. They are free to believe that racist crap, but it IS racist crap.

Many Christians, I assume not you since you are here, believe all us gay folk are going to hell for grabbing cocks instead of grabbing pussies. Their beliefs are homophobic. They have every right to be homophobic, but they ARE homophobic.

Yes, most religions believe everyone else on the planet is going to be punished in some way, and only their religious people will be saved/enlightened/abducted/whatever.

That does not make it not bigoted.

All of what you said is irrelevant because Bernie isn't just stating his belief, he used it as a reason to make an attempt to block someone from getting a position in the White House. That's a religious test and it's wrong no matter how you slice it. He should apologize for making a broad generalization. We do not have religious tests in this country. I wholeheartedly disagree with every single thing Russell Vought stands for and what he did at that Christian school is just plain wrong, but Bernie is ridiculous if he thinks someone should be blocked from a position for simply being a Christian and believing what's in the Bible. The whole thing should not have come up for someone who is up for a deputy budget director job anyway. What was his goal? To shame Christian Republicans for being "immoral" as he always puts it? Bernie's 15 minutes of fame are up and he's now an old tired joke that just isn't funny anymore.

That has nothing to do with my point. He not only criticized Christians, he called Christians "islamophobic" for being Christian.

I have no idea what you're talking about here, I know that many religions have elements of bigotry in them, including homophobia. THAT DOES NOT MAKE ALL THE PEOPLE WHO FOLLOW THOSE RELIGIONS BIGOTS AND HOMOPHOBES. That is the dumbest argument and I'm surprised you would suggest something like that. I am not a Christian because of every single word in the Bible, I am a Christian because I believe in Jesus and I've always relied on my faith to get through hard times. Bernie screwed up the moment he tied Christianity to being islamophobic. You NEVER make a broad generalization like that because I am not islamophobic and I am a Christian. Yes, he needs to apologize and if he doesn't, this will define him forever. I can promise you that. I am deeply offended by this and like I've said before, I didn't have much of an opinion of Bernie before this. Now, I see why there was resistance to him and I wish I was more active in that resistance. He needs to stay the hell out of the Democratic Party and more Democrats need to call him out on this.

Not with your comments, but with the fact you can count to three!

By the way.. Religious Freedom is an oxymoron.  Here are other oxymorons: military intelligence, hot ice, pretty woman..

I'm an atheist, just to be clear.

That has nothing to do with my point. He not only criticized Christians, he called Christians "islamophobic" for being Christian.

This is why I have a problem with what Bernie said.

Using his logic, muslims are anti semites and christophobes, not to mention haters of every other religion.

Bernie is just terrible for many reasons. I can agree with you here. He praised three mass-murderers, Fidel Castro who murdered 100,000, Daniel Ortega who murdered 20,000, and Joseph Stalin who murdered 100,000,000. He praised them just because they were communists. He also flew the Soviet flag in his mayoral office and his wife is under investigation for bankrupting Burlington College for lying about appraisals so investors would give millions, when the appraisals said the opposite. He's just bad news all around, and then people continued to support him after he backed Clinton when she colluded with the high ranking democrats to cheat him, after he took millions from supporters. He has several million dollar homes and promotes this equal distribution crap ideology that heart surgeons should make as much as the guy sitting on his couch playing video games. And people for some reason love that nonsense. Bernie sucks.

Bernie and the UK's Corbyn are peas in a pod.

The Labour party's top 3 people love terrorists, muslims and communism.

Corbyn also said even if the UK was attacked with nukes, he wouldn't respond likewise because he doesn't want to kill people.    Basically, his plan if he becomes PM is to cuck and pander to the countries who might do harm to the UK.
