Example of a Perfect Torrent to Improve Your Ratio (For Newer Users)
-
I just saw this torrent. It's not mine, but I just wanted to make an example of it.
~ huge size (over 50 GB)
~ lots of leechers (more than seeders, for now)
~ freeleech for more than 5 days (what you waitin for?)

Solid heads up, thanks!

Personally, I think this is far from being an example of a "Perfect Torrent" and falls closer to being a rather sad one instead.
A huge file with the uploader being the only seeder.
Even worse, in spite of having uploaded this thing, the uploader is now claimingโฆ
"...my upload is slow and I have things to do and need to leave home, I can not stay online all day seeding, there is no patience to wait, then cancel the download and will download anything."
I don't understand why the uploader would provide it, knowing he won't be able to seed it.
The comments on this torrent show that others aren't too happy with it either.
To top it off...it now appears to be "dead."
Definitely quite the opposite of being a "Perfect Torrent."
So my advice to "Newer Users"...please don't use this as an example and practice to follow. There are many other uploads which are much better to refer to. I'd suggest checking out some of those on the "Most Popular" list, which have a good number of "snatches" and "leechers." I think you'll be better off.

That [sad] part of having that one, not-so-committed seeder/uploader, and with a slow connection, did make it fall short of being perfect, huh? At least regarding the quality of the torrent itself.
However, considering the purpose of why I shared it in the first place, it still ended up or proved to be far from being useless.
So far, it has completed over 90% in my end. That's 48 GB's of data the majority of leechers have individually downloaded and helped share or traffic around, which has ended up giving me around 100 GB's of download buffer โ something newer users would totally not mind adding to their stats.
But, yes -- I'd agree with you on technicality and semantics (and I totally don't mind you pointing it out). It was like a big "DOH!" for many, but good thing a few have been contributing to make it Freeleech.
For newer users that want to be less technical (or less cynical ;)), and focus on the main point or purpose of this post, this torrent -- regardless of the quality and quantity of the download you'll get -- will have been, in a couple of days, Freeleech for over 2 weeks(!), and you'll still get a lot of traffic and improvement for your ratio from the 111 leechers, even if it says "0 (or 1) seeders." (Just make sure to watch out for when it will expire, as not to mess up your ratio.)

Fortunately it wasn't my taste so I didn't even start it.
But posting huge torrents is not very good, in my opinion. Posting huge torrents on a slow upload seems silly. Posting huge torrents on a slow upload and then not completing seems like a cruel joke.
If the object of downloading torrents here is to grab mucky movies, this was not a good place to start.
If your objective is to increase your ratio, find an original movie and upload it

Well, we're talking about fixing your ratio or increasing your download buffer here, so one's taste for these videos (and its mucky-ness or the lack thereof) have really nothing to do with it.
I've read your advice to others regarding improving their ratio, and though I respect everyone's preferences, your general take on not taking advantage of Freeleech torrents [as the main choice to improve one's ratio] has made me wonder, and I've to politely disagree with it.
Like I said, how much you care for or like these videos (which I've seen you mention to consider) has virtually no significance with the goal to increase one's buffer. After video torrents 'expire' as freeleech and/or become dead, I simply erase the videos to make room for newer ones. But during their freeleech session, as long as there are others downloading the videos (as long as I see a steady flow of upload activity on my end), that's all that really matters.
I agree with your advice to upload videos, which I've done quite a few times now. I noticed, though, that the traffic you get from that gets significantly less and less, as other leechers complete their download and become seeders like myself. You can only upload to others so much (while the torrent is new and hot) until the number of seeders from around the globe increases and/or it dies (even if it gets some little traffic later on).
You have valid points and opinions about uploading huge torrents, etc., but setting aside these details (that's irrelevant to the goal), if we're talking about fixing one's ratio and increasing one's download buffer, there has nothing been as fast as taking advantage of larger-sized, freeleech torrents as long as they're available.
The bulk of my download buffer has been from that, and even if I exchange all the (1,500) seed bonus points I've accumulated the past couple months, that's not even 10% of the download buffer I have that I got from Freeleech torrents. And the traffic I've gotten from my uploads has also been less than 10% of my download buffer.
I don't download much anymore to have better ratio, because I'm content with it. Do as you may or prefer, but I watched what increased my numbers the fastest while I worked on my ratio, and the majority of it has simply been from huge-sized, freeleech torrents more than anything.
Anyway, it's time for some Zzz's so I'll hear your input laterโฆ

On that torrent, when the uploader is seeding, his upload rate is around 35 KBytes/s. That is a fair upload rate for a seeder from home.
He's seeding every night, we trace that since it was reported for dead / not completed. Most likely he just overestimated the capacity to upload the complete thing in a reasonable time and with all the bad comments he got (I've deleted most), we can be happy if he's uploading another again. At least he should have learned from it.
For members joining now, it won't be the best torrent to improve share ratio (two many got too much already), but as it is freeleech it won't hurt.
Personally I won't download freeleech torrent in which content I haven't a genuine interest. Downloading just to improve the share ratio can become a big circle jerk.

First I have great admiration for all our uploaders, without them we'd be stuck with just this forum
But I am with Popper. I would never download any torrent just to improve my ratio. OK, after all this time it's academic for me, possibly. But what is the point of using bandwidth to download something you won't watch and just delete. A little patience and your ratio will be OK quickly.
Three simple things that people forget quite often:
1 Leave anything you have downloaded seeding as much as you can - there don't have to be current downloaders but they might appear unexpectedly.
2 Have you gathered your 2 bonus points by voting on every torrent you have completed. It may not seem much but I have gathered enough points that way to exchange for 20GB of credit if needed. And I'm not even a download whore
3 On your profile page check through all the torrents in the three lists (seeded, completed and uploaded). Are there any on there that look as if they need help with seeding and you still have the files? Any with downloaders but no seeders? Reseed immediately. You only have to download the torrent and point your client to the original file to start a reseed.
And finally, I apologise if I was someone who left a bad comment. I try not to. The only time I intentionally leave a bad comment is when someone bad-mouths another member who is trying to add to the site

I see now a totally legit issue (thanks to what you just mentioned, cannonmc) โ bandwidth that's slow and limited. Otherwise, I did gather that it was just more of a preference issue.
I did overlook that part (my bad), which would make it a different ballgame for others. For those with unlimited, high-speed connections (where bandwidth is just there, even kind of wasted if not used massively, lol), like I shared as my experience, it would unquestionably be the simplest and fastest way to increase one's ratio/buffer (besides donating, of course) to select huge torrents like this and leave it running (till it's dead or expires). I see the download buffer soar after a few hours, depending on a number of factors. On the other hand, I can see how super huge-sized torrents would totally be a pain in general for others.
I was even gathering new numbers to simply show how it would make sense to still take advantage of torrents like this (e.g. since my first reply, there were 25 more leechers added, and I've seen this torrent get extended several times as freeleech thanks to those donating their points -- still a lot of traffic from the 49 GB downloadable content; also, the 63 completed files out of the 79 wouldn't be useless for those who are into men in suites lol... just not my cup of tea). But yeah, it a would be a totally different scenario with limited access. I didn't think about that.
I actually had a chat with the uploader of the torrent. There weren't really any 'bad' comments in this torrent per se; he just felt pressured by others to seed that much, having a slow connection. He also intends to create new, smaller file groups of the torrent... once the final 8.1% of the download completes.
Thanks for all your input, and good day.

I fixed my ratio to get my rights back by using this torrent for a couple hours. Thank you.

As mentioned in the thread, leaving what you download there to seed is the best plan. Most torrent clients will show you your per-file d/u ratio and if it's below 1.0 just leave it there until someone else nabs it and improves that ratio. It's also the 'nice thing' to do.
OP is not wrong in his suggestion in general though, if there is a large file that you actually want, freelech or not, look at how the downloader/seeder ratio looks on the download page. Of course, the large files are mainly for the higher speed connections, seeding at a very slow rate you won't see much improvement with large file-size seeds compared to smaller ones.
Personally I always seed a minimum of 150 files and while a large majority of them lie dormant for days, or in rare cases even weeks, they do come back alive. Sometimes they get a Freeleech and the transfers skyrocket and sometimes they get recycled/repromoted and such. However, again, sometimes a large pack that you're interested in which is in Freelech can definitely boost your ratio, as seen in the attachment below.
I should note that this particular file is no longer in FL but people are still interested.
Keep up the seeds if you can, to help the community and yourself. -
