(I know I have spammed this particular section of the forum today, but honestly I have a lot of stuff I want to talk about and I thought it would be better if I made a separate topic for each one since they are different things…)

So, once again, I'm 22 years old and I have already started losing a great amount of hair (typical male hair loss pattern: both a receding hairline and a thinning crown), despite not having used hair gel or anything on them since middle school (if I have to use anything I always go with wax). I have tried vitamins, serums, pills, shampoos, and any possible type of treatment I could find but nothing really helped so I guess it is a gene thing and I can't really do something to prevent it.

I really don't like the idea of having random bald spots or uneven/patchy/scarce hair so I thought I would shave my head completely (in my opinion it looks more elegant and groomed than leaving the thinning hair be). I'm not sure if I'm gonna look good as a skinhead, and I'm also afraid that people in the gay community won't like it 😢

What do you think? Do you have a similar problem? How did you deal with it? Would you date a baldie? ::)

I must say that you have two options: hide under a rock (or tupeé) all your life or EMBRACE IT.

Shaving your head is elegant, practical and shows confidence.  You don't need to actually look like a skinhead, you can discuss that with your barber and get a nice, groomed look that will make all the guys gasp in amazement and desire (You can buzz it reeeal short and fade it)

Don't be afraid, be confident on how you look.  This is the key, confident men have an aura around them that makes them a lot more attractive.

I'm afraid there is nothing you can do to put back your hair (aside maybe an hair transplant, but it's very expensive and not 100% guarantee). There are many factors but genetics is the first (I knew a guy when I was in high school that had half of his hair already white and my brother that is 4y younger than me has much less hair than me) and you can't change genetics… follow the suggestion of Eridanos... you can try if you want some hair lotion that can help fortify the hair you still have but it will not make regrow those you lost...

In America it isn't seen as particularly bad to shave your head completely, there really aren't as strong cultural associations compared to other countries. Whether or not it looks good is entirely dependent on your particular head shape, you won't really know until you try it.

Honestly I wouldn't have any problem to look like a skinhead haha actually I pretty much dig their style and attitude (as soon as they are not the neonazi shitheads)

Othierwise I agree with you!! I'll eventually have to embrace it and make my future baldness one of my great features 😎 😎

I have a friend who had a hair transplant about a year ago and although it helped, it was hella painful and complicated. He still has scars and everything and he couldn't go out for about a month. I would prefer to shave my hair and be able to go outside even if it didn't look good on me that be in pain and agony for such a long time. And yes, it's extremely pricey and not guaranteed at all (in fact less than 50% of hair transplants work at least decently, my friend just happened to be lucky)

I was scared shitless when I started noticing my hairline receding during my senior year of high school.  I consider myself to be attractive, but the hair loss thing really zapped my self confidence…. and we all know it's all about confidence, not so much looks.

Basically, I spent years trying to have my hair cut in a certain way to hide it.  I stopped being as active - I couldn't sweat because then it would show.  I didn't want to be outside when it was windy because it would mess everything up.  I didn't swim from 18 to 27.  Every time I passed a mirror I had to look to make sure my hair was not messed up.  Just writing this makes me tired... I can't believe I kept that up for years.

I pursued hair transplants.  They told me it was going to be 12,000 for the first session and since I have dark hair I would probably need at least 2 sessions.  They warned me that I would have scarring on the back of my head where they took the donor hair, so I needed to consider since that would basically mean I could never shave it off since I would have big scars on the back of my head.  They gave me prescription for Propecia and I used that for 3 years.  It zapped my sex drive.  That stuff isn't cheap, and it sucks to think I was paying to kill my boners.

And then when I was 27 I woke up and decided I didn't want to live like that anymore.  I went to one of the cheap hair cut places and asked them to buzz it.  I got it buzzed on a 3-guard the first time.  It didn't look great, but I felt a freedom I had never felt before.  I went swimming - I started running again - I no longer had to be worried about my hair.  It does sound a little silly, but when you've basically been living in fear for years it was a relief to say, "Fuck it!"

My second time getting it buzzed I asked them to do it with no guard.  And I've stuck with that ever since...  It looks much better to take it all the way down.  Remember shorter is better when you're trying to hide hair loss.  I bought a pair of clippers and a 0.5 guard and ran it over my head every 4 days in the bathroom; a 0.5 guard is the shortest you can go with a guard, and they're hard to find sometimes (the guards they give you with clippers usually start at 1).  After a few years of trying out different clippers and having increased confidence in my technique, I now buzz it with no guard.  Haven't paid for a haircut in years.  I did shave it with a razor twice, but what guys don't tell you is that your head has this sticky feeling that I could never get used to.  I felt like I would stick to the pillow at night and my head was always shiny.  So, keeping it clipped close gives me no oily shine and I love the feel of it.  Oh, and I'm really thankful I didn't waste money on hair transplants because if I had decided to buzz it, everyone would have known that I tried hair transplants due to the scar(s) on the back of my head.

People at work tell me they can't imagine me with hair.  Guys love to rub my head and I get a lot more attention from guys than I ever did before.  My confidence is through the roof now, and I swear to you it's all about confidence.

Just buzz it.  If you can't stand it you can grow it back.  I wish I hadn't waited until 27.

                        OP,

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm only 27 and it has been receding quit rapidly over the past few years. I buzz my entire head with a 1/2" blade and will resort to completely shaving once the top thins enough, which isn't too far off  😞 Anyways, bald dudes are hot and I say rock it!

Been there and had the same issues until the hottest guy I'd ever met told me bald heads turned him on.  He was the first but certainly not the last one to say it. Shave your head and experiment with facial hair if you want to and find a look that you're comfortable with because that's where confidence springs from.  Some guys have major hair issues but it's THEIR issue, not yours.  Attractions are individual and a full head of hair or a shaved head is no different than your ethnicity or skin color when it comes to whether or not a guy is into you.

You can definitely try out new hairstyles that suit your receding hairstyles. Clean shaven head perhaps with/without a fitting cap also looks pretty awesome…

Yes definitely try the clippers as short as you can get it. Then, if you like how it looks, you can go ahead and shave it after giving the clippers a try for a couple of weeks so that the transition doesn't catch you too off guard. Embracing the change is the key to feeling good about it. And think of all the money you will save from not going to the barbershop!

I find bald men very sexy. However, I am 30 years old, and I have started to see that my hair is thinning slightly and I went on Propecia and Rogaine. How does this make ANY sense? I think it takes a certain amount of soul searching (I know that's a lame term, but there you have it.) I warn you that propecia has had some sexual side effects.
