hXXp://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/american-sexuality-cdc_568fc48de4b0c8beacf69af875.9% of women and 88.6% of men aged 18–24 said they were attracted “only to the opposite sex.”

"I've never seen that figure [88.6% of men…] below 90 percent," Ritch Savin-Williams, a developmental psychology professor at Cornell University and author on gender orientation, told NJ.com. "There's a progression away from straightness, if you will."

For decades, experts studying human sexuality have asked people if they're gay, straight, or bisexual!
Two more possible answers have been added in recent years, allowing people to say they're attracted "mostly to the opposite sex" or "mostly to the same sex." >:D
These results have uncovered an unprecedented level of same-sex attraction – particularly in young adults.

is this starting to become a trend?

Like the religious right says, "it's all just a choice," so ditch the bitch, flip the switch, and start banging your buddies, straight guys!
Seriously, though, this isn't new or unprecedented - they're asking a different question (the key word is "mostly") and men feel more free to be honest in today's society. There was a time in parts of American society when male homosexuality was perfectly okay as long as one was the top. Read George Chauncey's "Gay New York," for example.
