Star Wars boss hints of gay love story between Finn and Poe in future films
The head of Lucasfilm has hinted of a gay love story between Finn and Poe in future Star Wars films.
President Kathleen Kennedy will not confirm anything, but has said a romance between the pilot and stormtrooper is definitely a possibility.
This would be the first ever gay subplot in the franchise that is now in its 40th year.
Speaking to Ecartelera, Kennedy said the door is open on protagonists Finn (John Boyega) and Poe (Oscar Isaac) falling in love in future films – but not the next one.
‘We’ve talked about it, but I think you’re not going to see it in The Last Jedi,’ she said.
There is an eager group of fans that are hoping for a romance between the two male leads.
It doesn’t help the trailer for the upcoming film shows Finn wearing an outfit that looks exactly like one worn by Poe.
Boyega has previously said ‘you never know’ about upcoming storylines, including a possible gay romance.
‘As far as I’m concerned, when JJ [Abrams] sat us down to go through the script, it was a bromance,’ he told the Radio Times.
‘But now I’m learning what Mark Hamill said before when he didn’t know that Darth Vader was Luke’s father: you never know what they’re going to pull.’
So with Kennedy’s quotes, fans are going to be even more excited that their passion could one day lead to a reality.
‘In the next six or eight months we will have some meetings about the stories that we will develop next,’ Kennedy said.
‘After 40 years of adventures, people have a lot of information and a lot of theories about the path these stories can take, and sometimes those theories that come up are new ideas for us to listen to, read and pay attention to.’ -
There are now six concentration camps illegally imprisoning gay men in Chechnya
Gay men are being illegally imprisoned in at least six concentration camps in Chechnya.
It is alleged that at least 300 people have been detained and tortured in the government-backed crackdown on the LGBTI community. At least four have been killed.
Despite Chechnya first denying knowledge of a ‘purge’, President Ramzan Kadyrov now wants to eliminate all gay men from the autonomous Russian region by the ‘start of Ramadan’ – or 26 May.
Novaya Gazata newspaper reported on 1 April that at least 100 men had been imprisoned in two former military jails in the Chechen villages of Argun and Tsotsi-Yurt.
But now they have discovered at least four more concentration camps have been discovered.
The men, who face physical beatings, starvation and shocks in homemade electric chairs, are forced to promise to never return to Chechnya or be killed.
An online petition asking for a full investigation into the matter so as to ‘uphold the values of justice and tolerance’ has also been signed by more than 1.3 million people.
Human rights groups such as the Russian LGBT Network together with global organizations such as All Out have launched donation drives to raise funds to evacuate those who are affected. The Russian LGBT Network is working to evacuate gay men and get them to safety.
Global leaders such as US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and UK Foreign Office minister Baroness Anelay have also expressed concerns of the happenings in Chechnya.
Kadyrov’s spokesperson Alvi Karimov has claimed gay people ‘simply do not exist’ in the republic.
He said: ‘If there were such people in Chechnya, their relatives would send them somewhere from whence they could not return.’
