@bobmablob:
Lord. What is it with all the hateful, misinformed people on this damn site?
By no means has Chechnya been ignored; it's probably more accurate to say that Chechnya has been hyper-analyzed at the expense of abuses happening at the same time in Iran, Nigeria, Indonesia, and Brazil. It's unclear to me how you could even come to the conclusion that it's been ignored unless you've either completely forgone the internet for the past two months or you've limited your engagement to alt-right, Nazi forums.
Chechnya also isn't as simple as blaming Muslims. We need also remember that homonationalist tendencies to place LGBTI (really, just gay) rights as a crux of moral supremacy vis-à-vis international relations has significant drawbacks.
In the circles I work in, which you might deride as "SJWs" when in fact we're human rights professionals trained and educated in human rights methodologies, we've been relating the backlash in Chechnya to two things: First, the fact that the detentions were sparked by a Russian group pressing for a pride parade in Chechnya, which obviously was a faulty tactic. This was something Chechen activists noted from the start. Second, the "vodka boycott" surrounding Russia and the winter Olympics a few years back cemented gay rights as a particular point of symbolic contention between Russia and the "West", resulting in the hyper-visibility of SGM populations, and thus their increased targeting for violence.
Please try to learn something about the world before spouting off your uninformed bigotry on an anonymous comment thread. I've said this in other forums, but it's such a ridiculous shame that gay men themselves have become a burden and a barrier in social justice work. Your anti-Muslim bigotry isn't helping anyone, especially the LGBT Muslims whom I work with and whom are pushing everyday to change the narrative of Muslim backwardness when there are billions of Muslims who are just as modern as you are.
Brazil is a very violent country. And violence affects everyone.
Most homosexuals and transsexuals are victims of common crime, not hate crime.
You can not compare this to the state and legal persecution that exists in Muslim countries.
