The scandal that prompted an investigation into hundreds of Marines who are accused of sharing naked photographs of their colleagues in a private Facebook group is much larger than has been reported, Business Insider has learned.

The practice of sharing such photos goes beyond the Marine Corps and one Facebook group. Hundreds of nude photos of female service members from every military branch have been posted to an image-sharing message board that dates back to at least May. A source informed Business Insider of the site's existence on Tuesday.

The site, called AnonIB, has a dedicated board for military personnel that features dozens of threaded conversations among men, many of whom ask for "wins" — naked photographs — of specific female service members, often identifying the women by name or where they are stationed.

The revelation comes on the heels of an explosive story published on Saturday by the journalist Thomas Brennan. He reported on a Facebook group called Marines United, which was home to approximately 30,000 members who were sharing nude photos of colleagues along with personal information and even encouragement of sexual assault.

The report led the Marine Corps to open an investigation, spurred widespread outrage in the media and in Congress, and prompted sharp condemnation from the Corps' top leaders. According to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, investigators are considering felony charges that could carry a maximum penalty of seven years in prison.

An official familiar with the matter told Business Insider that the Marine commandant, Gen. Robert Neller, would brief members of the House Armed Services Committee next week on the scandal.

"We're examining some of our policies to see if we can make them punitive in nature," the official said, adding that the Corps was taking the issue very seriously.

Brennan's story also led to an apparent exodus of members from the private Facebook group, though some appeared to have found the publicly viewable message board soon after — with the express intent of finding the cache of nude images that Marines in the Facebook group were sharing.

"Come on Marines share the wealth here before that site is nuked and all is lost," one anonymous user said in a post on Monday, two days after Brennan's story was published. Follow-up replies offered a link to a Dropbox folder named "Girls of MU" with thousands of photographs.

Dropbox did not respond to a request for comment.

Members on the board often posted photos — seemingly stolen from female service members' Instagram accounts — before asking others if they had nude pictures of a female service member.

For example, after posting the first name and photograph of a female soldier in uniform on January 21, one board member asked for "Army chick went to [redacted], ig is [redacted]." Another user, apparently frustrated that no pictures had yet been found, posted a few days later: "BUMP. Let's see them t–----."

On another thread, a member posted a photograph on May 30 of a female service member with her breasts exposed and said, "She is in the navy down in san diego, anyone have any more wins?"

Twitter users remained mostly in support of Rose — with some questioning what her 4-year-old son Sebastian would think of the photo.

Leola Rose didn’t have a headache when she rocked up to work on November 5, 2010 and had no idea of how much her life was about to change.

After hearing a loud bang, the 28-year-old said her hearing and vision cut out and she fell to the ground, unable to move.

A colleague spotted her and launched over the bathroom door to help Ms Rose, who was unable to talk or explain what had happened.

Rushed to Sydney’s Ryde Hospital, medical staff thought the bleeding on her brain was from hitting her head on the toilet.

They did not know she had suffered a life-threatening brain aneurysm.

Transferred to Macquarie Hospital for exploratory surgery, it took five hours to locate the brain bleed.

That’s when doctors informed her father, Lawrence, and boyfriend-now-husband, Mervyn, that she had just a one-in-five chance of survival.

But detectives allege a vastly different picture, claiming he’s sexually assaulted two girls aged just 11 and 12.
On Sunday the 31 year old refused to front Wyong Local Court, after spending the night in hospital following an alleged attempt to give himself a lethal dose of insulin.

Court documents reveal police began their investigations in June after his first alleged victim came forward.

Police then seized Johnson’s mobile phone, allegedly finding a carefully crafted plot to attack a second victim at Narara, including aerial shots of bushland.

He allegedly bound, gagged and sexually the 12 year old.

After he was arrested Johnson was brought to the Wyong Police Station where he denied all of the allegations.
When shown a photo of the camouflage suit he said he only knew it was a Ghillie suit because he was a hunter.

But in a raid of his Woongarah home police allegedly uncovered the camouflage clothing as well as knives and cable ties.

Johnson is due to face Gosford Local Court on Monday where he is expected to apply for bail.

The cast, crew and audience of a play about a gay couple have had their tyres slashed weeks after its posters were ripped down in Sydney's north.

At least 12 people had their tyres punctured or slashed at Lane Cove Theatre Company's penultimate performance of Holding the Man on Saturday, president Lochie Beh told AAP.

The sold-out production is based on Timothy Conigrave's 1995 autobiographical book about his 15-year relationship with high school footballer John Caleo.

Mr Beh said he can only assume the latest attack is some sort a hate crime.

"We realise that the play has a little bit of controversy to it but we've not had anybody that's actually come forward to say we are not happy about you putting on this show," he said.

"We can only feel like we are being attacked for a reason that we're actually unsure of."

Posters advertising the play were torn down from the Lane Cove area earlier this month and found in the bin.

Mr Beh couldn't say whether the targeted attacks were directly linked to the upcoming same-sex marriage postal survey.

"I would say… that it must have something to do with it based on the fact that it's happened around the same time frame," he said.

The company hasn't had any other trouble in its 22 years of performances, he said.

"We're an amateur theatre company that tells stories so for us to have such controversy surrounding a play... it's just astonishing," he said.

He said the cast and crew were feeling "disappointed" and "hurt" but were maintaining positivity for Sunday's final performance.

NSW Liberal MP Trent Zimmerman, who attended the play's opening night, said the "hateful attacks" were "disgraceful" and should be condemned.
"It's an appalling attack on basically a local amateur theatre group who are going about their normal business of putting on a show," Mr Zimmerman told Sky News.

"To have the tyres of patrons and the crews slashed is just completely unacceptable and not something we should be tolerating in Australian society."
