Good reviews. I skim reviews from the trade websites (Hollywood Reporter, Variety) and listen to podcasts and if there is unanimous consent and a very high Rotten Tomatoes rating (95% or higher) I will give the show a shot, and usually it's worth sticking with it.

About the ending:
! The ending is not tragic. Though the movie supposedly has a different ending than the book, I'm pretty sure it's supposed to capture the spirit of the book's ending, which is bittersweet. The book ends years into the future where both men seem happy in their heterosexual relationships.
