If they're Russian, they cannot profit from this site anymore - all major payment systems have them isolated, and Russian public is not profitable for multiple reasons.
And while they cannot make money from the site, they can keep losing it on upkeep and server costs.

Was such a friend myself, being a whiny and obnoxious jerk. Sadly, most of it I understand only in retrospect, after my straight friend of 10 years finally kicked me.
And now I'm a lonely and miserable jerk.
