New ratio policy is unfair!
-
I'd just like to say that I think the new ratio policy is unfair. I've been a member here for years, and always maintained my share ratio way above the minimum requirement. Now, I have like 20 days to fix this? It sure took a lot longer than that to get my ratio even where it is at now…so how can I fix it in 20 days? especially when my upload rate on my ISP is only half that of my download rate. Thanks for all the movies guys....looks like i'll be gone in 20 days

There is already a thread for this.
Anyway, we don't ban for bad ratios, just remove your download rights until your ratio improves.
Anyway, this has been announced for 6 months in a few spots on the forums. So you should have had plenty of time to work on increasing your ratio.
You complain that your upload speed is only half your download speed. My upload speed is 1/10th my download speed and I manage.

As a first thing: let me correct some of your figures so we speak about the same things:
… I've been a member here for years, ...
Your statistic page say :Join date 2007-01-07 17:34:44 (79 weeks ago)
in this time frame your down-/upload figures are:
Uploaded 615.90 GB [Daily: 1.11 GB]
Downloaded 1.05 TB [Daily: 1.94 GB]
Share ratio 0.570Think about: each and every day you downloaded about 2 videos of around 900 MB or each two days a DVD of around 4 GB. Don't you think that is a lot of porn you got from this community? And your upload amount includes your seed bonus, 32.5 GB.
No - this is not criticism but think about what you got from our members in this time.
Now to the ratio: You don't think it fair - at the time of this writing only 13% of our 5,768 voting users agree with you (if I may interpret "I hate it" as "I do not like it" or "It's unfair" or something like that). Even 22% vote for "Tight but fair" - so like a gay guy in real life you are alas in a minority this time. (BTW: between us two: May I remind you of your own vote in the current poll?)
And please don't tell me you did not know about the new ratio reqirements. They were announced on the home page and in the forum at least 5 months before they got activated.
BTW: I could not find a posting of yours in that discussion thread too. Now, at a sudden, it is unfair? Only because you got a ratio warning?
You should know about our helpdesk and our PM system - ever thought about asking a moderator for help with your ratio (or now with your ratio warning)?. All moderators (and admins too) are glad to help you out of any problems you might run into. Just ask on the helpdesk or PM a moderator you trust. Is that asked too much from you?
Hope you take my help offer seriously.

In my opinion the only people that think 'New ratio policy is unfair' are the people that just want to leech, and suck the life out of a sharing community…

Please also remember that the new ratio system is meant to improve the service quality, since you seem to be a heavy download user, you know that it sux to take ages to download a torrent, or even getting stuck forever at some random point (that since the torrent system download fragments, makes the file useless anyway).
Belive that everybody here would love to have a fantasy server where we put all the stuff in and leech as much as we want, but, unfortunately that isnt possible, so we have to share files instead.
A tight ratio system is not fun but will certainly improve the service quality, with less dead torrents and faster downloads to everyone. Please try to look at it in the overall, ok man?Take care.

Well In MHO i think the rate is fair - i can not see any reason for anyone on this site or using this site can not keep in line with this rate.
Even slow users or large file users can balance out the load they download and upload to give themselfs a decent ratio.
even if you have to leave your pc on over night or leave your torrent manager on in the background.

I upload at speeds 4 times less than my download speeds and that doesn't prevent my ration from being above 1.9. Dont dare using this as excuse.
If you put that idea forward for the new ratio to be unfair, then i'd reply that you should simply limit your download speed to that of your upload speed..it's only fair to take the amount that you're able to give back!

especially when my upload rate on my ISP is only half that of my download rate.
My current upload speed is 1/10th my download speed and soon that will change to 1/24th.
I can manage to stay above the minimum requirements quite nicely.

There is already a thread for this.
And it is full of good information and heated discussion. hxxp://forum.gaytorrent.ru/index.php?topic=2690.0 (New Ratio requirements, started by Tom)
Really informative; and some people do a good job of making the case for lower ratios, although I still agree with the current policy in the end.
I encourage everyone to read it, no matter what side you are on in the debate.I've been a member here for years, and always maintained my share ratio way above the minimum requirement. Now, I have like 20 days to fix this?
I doubt that. If it was really "way above the minimum," then you wouldn't be in the danger zone now. More likely it was just a little above the minimum, which means you took more than you gave. You can check my recent post on the main thread (mentioned above) for my longer opinion about that.

I see this UL/DL rate used as an excuse alot. But it seems to me the issue isn't the rate, it is the overall speed. If you have a really fast download speed, then you may have a relatively low upload rate but still be capable of being a great seeder. But greedy dicks download as fast as they can, as much as they can, not paying attention to the rates. Ultimately, it does not matter what your upload speed is, only that you adjust your download amount to work with it. A question of torrent ethics: give to get.
My thanks to Raphjd, Tom, and all the other admin and Mod who keep this site running and put up with all the verbal shit thrown at them. You do a great job! ;D

The old ratio was .35 and my ratio is .57. Not exactly "a little" above minimum. It's 63% more than the old minimum. The new minimum is 129% more than the old minimum. As much as everyone is attacking me, I was just trying to point out that previously I was sharing 63% more than was required, and that now, it's 50% less than the increase in the minimum. I have no problem sharing whatsoever. I just thought the jump from .35 to .8 was a little much all at once. So, I guess judge me all you want….
-
People seem to forget where the bandwith they download from originate from other members. The site ratio requirement is really just a minimum requirement. Ideally, we should be require to upload as much as we download. It's unrealistic to expect a small number of member to provide bandwidth for everyone else.

@ bearcubvet:
I am sorry, I don't want to sound like I am attacking. When I wrote that post, and the other one I referred to http://forum.gaytorrent.ru/index.php?topic=2690.0 reply #148, I was only pointing out that it seemed like you were giving yourself too much credit. Looking at your numbers, It show the difference between total and relative thinking. I don't think most people would describe .57 as "way above" .35, although 63% more seems more pronounced. I sympathize with the general point; you were above what you were told you should be, and then you weren't. Still, given how much you downloaded, it would seem you would have tried to get your ratio higher, just from the general discussion of ratios and leechers on this forum and other web sources. See the rest of my earlier post in this thread, #8 above. And as was pointed out on Tom's main thread, http://forum.gaytorrent.ru/index.php?topic=2690.0, there was 5 months notice, plenty of time to adjust your DL/UL habits to ease your way up the ratio scale. I am just a user and so don't have access to your history during that time, but were you actively trying to get your ratio up, or just cruising along at around .57? If it is .57 now, then 5 months ago it would have been lower and you raised it to .57, which undercuts your "way above" line further; or it was alway around .57, meaning you didn't do anything in 5 months to change your ways. Neither scenario puts you in a good light, sorry. Also, I am confused at your reference to .8 ratio. The graduated ratio requirements have a top ratio of .75, unless I am looking at the wrong list. Same for the "20 day" number, which I see listed as 14 days. Remember, that is only till suspension of your download privileges. You can still upload content, and can still seed things you have already downloaded. given that you downloaded a TB of stuff, surely there are things there that new people would want. You could help revitalize some old seeds. Go on the forum an get some feedback of what would get the most new leeches. Ask the mods and admins for help, diplomatically and without sounding whiny. Try to work your way out of the hole. I'll pretend to be naive and say maybe you didn't understand that you were taking more than you were giving, or that such a ratio was maybe wrong ethically, though still following the technical number rules. So now you know; man-up and fix the problem.
Generally, maybe the problem is all of the talk in the posts of what is "fair" and "unfair," which are highly subjective terms. Some think a ratio of at least 1.0 is "fair," which sounds right socially but may be impossible mathematically. Others think "fair" is taking into account users' upload speeds, which would make it progressive, like the tax code in most countries. But how to tell the difference between someone with a low top UL speed, and someone who has throttles a good speed down to appear slow and therefore lower their ratio requirement. Look at all the tax cheats, and GT.ru doesn't have an IRS (american reference). Myself, I like the graduated ratio system that has been implemented, because it allows new users to learn the ropes and maybe work through the first rush of "porn flood" the site allows. But any user who has downloaded several hundred GB of stuff has an obligation to understand the system better than many of the complainers seem to, and to come to terms with "fair" being a rising higher ratio.
Modification added:

Ok, that one is stupid on my part. I was looking at Rationator 1.0, not 2.0. You are right about the .8, although that has a 40 day warning period, not 20 days.
