System changes are not communicated well enough
-
It seems that many ppl including myself are made aware of changes either too late or not effectively enough. It' very clear from polls taken by the site itself that a great majority of ppl dont know what's going on. Now I get message saying that rationator is giving me a period to fix my ratio. Fine that I can handle. Now I'm looking at the home page and I find out that future members will only be allowed to join invitation style from power users. Well if ultimately whats happening here is money is whats directing the flow of traffic then it will only be a matter of time before all members new and loyal will be paying a monthly cover charge. I would just like to say one thing though you attract more bees with honey than with vinegar ( atleast I think that's how the saying goes). If it was made easier for the average user to donate ( more methods of transaction) and more incentives to do so we would all benefit from this. Apart from that this sit e could really use a chat space for the community so info on porns is traded much faster. That is one thing I can't stress enuff their is a big bad void in communication tactics on this site. so i'd just like to know what some of you think of where the changes are headed, and how you plan to cope with them.

The System changes were announced long time ago in February

Hello miko365,
Regarding the 'Rationator' system, as junior1174 mentioned (thanks ;D ) we announced the up coming changes on: February 05, 2008, 07:59:53 am, these changes have only come into affect withing the last week… are you saying we need to give more time then almost 5 months???
The decision to make the site members only doesn't really affect the current members and open membership will be available on the first day of every month. This was actually done to benefit the current members and to stop 'hit and run' users.
I really don't understand what you are saying about money... this service has been provided free of charge with the option of donating. We are EXTREAMLY greatful for anyone that donates, however you need to understand that the donations we receive don't even cover the cost of hosting the site, never mind maintenance and everything else.
Chat space? If you look at the top of the page that you are reading we have a chat room and have done for as long as i've been a member, also the forum is used frequently for information.
The main reason for this site is file SHARING, we have a ratio system to make sure the files are shared.

Those of you who take the time to go through the forums may be aware of what's going on. For all you expert gaytorrent.ru users good you are well informed great! But there is a large number of ppl ( as ridiculous as it sounds). Yes there is a large number of ppl who dont know whats going on because their too lazy or tired to go searching through the hundreds of posts. Another thing is the mods are either sleeping or away often making it hard for users to troubleshoot issues on this site. That's why I believe that either a member chat would be of benefit or to "market" to users the IRC chat for gaytorrent where users can help each other in real time.

To lazy to read first few lines on front page you see when you log in to the site? Hmm

Lime green is a little hard on they eyes.
They can also the "Show unread posts since last visit." button in the Forum and the Helpdesk on the top menu bar.
We do use the IRC channel for support, members can help each other out there anytime they wish if an IRCop isn't available.
At the moment all of our staff isn't available to work on the site or to be in chat, vacations, moving, exams, etc.
But anyhow, we could market Chat a little more for support via the Homepage under "Meet us in Chat daily at 20.00 GMT+1" and on the first Chat page.I'm in chat now if you need some help…

So basicly you are saying it's our fault that people are to lazy to look for the information that you say we don't provide?

Hello
Altough i rarely post in the forums and even download rarely (but upload a lot) i am ALWAYS well informed about the things that go on. For example the "invite only" pretty much jumped right into my eye when i opened the page from my FF bookmark. There was a link which went straight (ummm… i'm gay actually!) to the forum discussion thread.
That system is EXCELLENT, users don't HAVE to go to the forum and click thru some "forum news" whatever link/topic/subtopic to get the news - the important stuff is right on the front page.
Now if one is too lazy to read THAT then he shouldn't complain about a "lack of news announcements".
About the donations - you don't have to if you don't want to. Keeping a good enough ratio may be difficult for some and they do have the possibility to donate to keep their status, i know one other site where, if you have a low ratio, you can't download - even if you donate a thousand bucks. And also that site doesn't accept PayPal but instead you have to sign up with some, to be frank, rather "dodgy" site in order to donate with a credit card. If you, like me, have no credit card - can't donate (or send cash - trust in the postal system??) and you don't even get a "star" if you donate....
Again, here it is WAY better.
Best regards.....

hi as soon as i logged on to the site it was easy to see the changes, how do you become a power user i allways try to upload at least want i down load the new system is less than that and should be ok to do
-
This is what is listed under the FAQ(Located on the blue bar between rules and Staff)
This step is automated as well and even more easy if you have managed to reach the following three conditions:
You have to be a member on our site for at least four weeks
You must have an upload greater than 40 GB
You must have reached a ratio of at least 1.05 (read better = greater) -
You should give back what you've taken.
This is how torrents works.
Common sence. With(at last, thanks god) or without restrictive rules people should manage to keep their ratio AT LEAST 1.00.
Torrent is not rapidshare.

The torrent system makes some user forget that this is not a download site, its a sharing community. When you download a movie, you are not downloading from a black hole, you are downloading from some other user who is there, online for you to be able to. Without users, there would be no Gaytorrent.ru.
After reading miko365 initial complaint i thought "How would be the best way to communicate users about this kind of stuff". The options i thought were
- Email. After some time, some users would just ignore emails from the site considering it spam, and we would have the same problem we are having
- Full texts on the home page. I guess 90% of the users would be bored just by looking at it.
- Blinking message boxes about important stuff. The users would certainly see it, but it may become annoying
Should we prevent users from searching torrentz until they have read the important messages and ticked some sort of "I agree that i have read that", like Terms of Service from websites? Nobody could say they were not away in that case…
-
I think the only thig i woudl like to see get changed is some system where any posts or updates to the site are listed that you can choose to recieve a e-mail or some form of alert that is more personall than just a note on the home page- dont get me wrong its fine but i think this would be a improvement

Come on, who actually reads that?

Nix the green, I agree.
Your use of the passive voice here is telling. You "are made aware" instead of discovering for yourself, meaning it is someone else's obligation to inform you, not your obligation to stay informed. Just because a "great majority" are ignorant or mis-informed, it doesn't make them right. 47% of Americans believe that the earliest humans lived at the same time as the dinosaurs. American Association of Physics Teachers

So people are lazy and tired, and so they ignore information, and that is the site's fault? ??? I think your statement is correct in it's observation, but that is sad, and should not be an excuse as you use it.
The thing to remember is that this is a mutual SHARING site, run by people volunteering their time, computers, and energy. You complaint seems like something better directed towards a pay site. If you pay, you expect a certain level of service and that they make it "easy on the customer." Here, you are NOT a customer! You are a member of a like-minded community, and therefore have certain obligations to the community about keeping informed on current issues, reading over the site, understanding how it all works, maintaining your ratio, etc. Just like you have to keep up with your local taxes, and know the issues when you vote in a physical community.

I guess I was wrong about the sentiments of most peers on gay torrent. It's possible the people who say they don't know what's going on the site are hit and run users. It's just that many posters in the forum refer to this site in the sense that it's almost a community, and in order for that to happen. ( for the peers to feel a sense of duty towards one another for at least file sharing purposes there has to be the human element) So a chat thats more oriented towards the members as the communicators would enable this. Also if people can provide ratings for movies and recommendations. ::) I know some of these ideas are already in use, but if they were used more as a system rather than just a filter it would be beneficial for all. What i mean by this is just showing the top 10 will get people downloading the top ten, or torrents with the most number of seeders. If there were ratings that appeared automatically in different categories or to movies with the same actor in it would offer a better idea to the peer on which porn would hit the spot for his given mood. (sorta speak) The general idea would be like adding play lists to to your music files, but in this case play lists can cross over . I hope none find what I wrote offensive just helpful. And I thank the mods for their valuable time.
