Trump Admin to Shut Down DOJ Arm Behind Ferguson Riots

The office has a history of intervening during periods of heightened national unrest. It was credited with helping prevent another riot in 1993, as racial tensions re-emerged following the second trial of police who beat Rodney King in California.

It also worked to ease rising racial tensions after the 1997 fatal police shooting of a Chinese-American man in Rohnert Park, California, in Akron, Ohio in 2022 after the shooting of a Black man by police and deploying twice to Minneapolis during the trial of Derek Chauvin after the killing of George Floyd in 2020 in Minnesota.

Former leaders of the Community Relations Service worry that shuttering the office could lead to a surge in disputes between police departments or city leaders and minority communities nationwide.

So, even lib, pro-CRS version concedes:

it messes in USA riots, such as BLM / George Floyd
libs want to "credit" it with good in those riots but..... really? Fiery but mostly peaceful. Piss-poor job, CRS. People die, cities burn, on your watch.

Ferguson [2013, post George Zimmerman] was the ground zero for the BLM movement that destroyed public safety and the race riots that wrecked out cities and led to a wave of radical pro-crime policies that killed thousands.

While Ferguson may be in the rearview mirror for many, the Trump administration is moving to shut down the Community Relations Service that was at the heart of it.

[CRS] train[ed] protesters...geared at worsening the situation and not improving it.

The CRS is at best an odd artifact of sixties liberalism and at worst means embedding activists inside the DOJ.

Shut down CRS. Yes.
