Founder of Pride in Surrey and former charity volunteer remanded in custody at magistrates court
Stephen Ireland, 40, is facing a total of 37 charges, including rape of a child under 13, six counts of making indecent photographs of children and two counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
For 15 of the alleged offences, the founder of Pride in Surrey was jointly charged alongside David Sutton, 26.

Stephen Ireland, 41, who co-founded Pride in Surrey in 2018, raped the [12-year] child at the flat he shared with his then-partner and co-defendant David Sutton, 27, in Addlestone on 19 April 2024 after messaging on Grindr.
Sutton was jailed for four-and-a-half years for making indecent photographs of children and possession of an extreme pornographic image.
the boy had initially told Ireland he was aged 17 – but when he later claimed to be aged 13, Ireland replied: "OK – we just have to keep it a secret."

Ireland along with Sutton, who was a volunteer for Surrey Pride, were found guilty of a string of sexual offences against children including voyeurism, arranging commission of a child sex offence, and possession of prohibited images of children, after a trial at Guildford Crown Court earlier this year.
In August 2022, Ireland and Sutton discussed arrangements to procure a 13-year-old boy for Sutton's 25th birthday in October of that year, the court heard.

When a man like Ireland gets this cosy with police (qv Savile) the general presumption will be that he is beyond reproach and his sense of being untouchable is bolstered.
