Music/TV & Movie categories deletion
-
I saw this notice on the front page and it alarm me a little. Thought I should speak up before it's too late.
I have no objection to the deletion of the Music category. It's not because I don't appreciate good music. For me, music is more "universal". There's no specific "gay music" that non-gay people can't appreciate.
In the same extend, there are gay movie/tv show that are made for the "gay audience" or are important to gay history/culture. eg: Queer ask Folk, Will and Grace, Oz, Rick and Steve, not Ugly Betty (great show but not gay enough), Glee = maybe.
I understand the importance of not attracting the attention of Hollywood studios that could get this site shutdown. At the same time, I see sites like GT.ru play an important part in making hard to find gay theme movie/tv show available to all the gays around the world. These niche programs have no chance of surviving on cyberlocker or public torrent sites.
So please reconsider your decision. Instead of deleting the movie/tv show category, put more restriction on what can be share.
Some rules to consider:
YES
1. Must have at least one main LGBTI character.
2. Part of the main plot must be about this LGBTI character.NO
1. No current TV show (same year) that are widely available on The Pirate Bay (eg: True Blood). Those rules can be slightly relax by not applying them to non-English speaking shows or non-US/UK show.

The owner and staff are considering all possibilities in this discussion. However, Site and User security will be our main focus in this discussion. Decisions like these are not easily made and we do understand the effect they have on our Users because first and foremost we are Users as well.
This article from the BBC is an example of what Torrent Sites are facing in the coming days, months and years :

This is but one adversary ~ there are many that exist and we face them daily.
We hope that our Users will understand and respect these Hard Decisions that have to be made for the sake of our survival.

I read today the same announcement on your front page. Of course I had already noticed the deletion of the Music Category. So, allow me to share some thoughts with you on that topic.
First, I want to say that I totally agree with the deletion of the Music Category. It didn't make much sense to me - music cannot be gay or straight.
In your FAQs page, under the question "What kind of torrent should I upload?" you clearly state: "Anything gay-related". Movies, TV series, webseries, books, magazines, cartoons/anime, and comics/manga can be gay-related, and I'm glad you have such material apart from porn. If you decide to delete the categories that contain such material, you automatically exclude yourselves from anything gay-related and you limit yourselves to porn. Porn is great, but you can find porn anywhere. If you remove those categories, you become just another one of millions porn sites. And you'll disappoint a lot of your users. Besides, there's material on this site you can hardly find anywhere else.
In addition, the reason you mention about considering the deletion of those categories, really confuses me. Why is it safe for the site and the users if the uploads/downloads are of porn movies, porn clips and porn pics, and why is it unsafe if it's movies, TV episodes or manga?
As far as the Appz Category is concerned, it's clearly a non gay-related category, but it's a useful tool. I'd prefer if you kept it.
The way I see it, the current form of this site is what differentiates it from so many other sites. If you limit yourselves to porn, you stop being unique and you'll alienate a great portion of your users. Therefore I strongly object to any further deletion of categories.
Respectfully,
Dax -
Dax, I've read elsewhere that (many/majority of) porn producers see site like this as valuable free distribution and marketing tool to easily reach their target audience. Porn, by nature are not advertise publicly. Instead they are usually pass on by word of mouth. The studios hope that once someone had sample their product, they like it enough to sign up as paying customers.
A small number of studios does not agree with that theory and prefer to sue their viewers instead.

Thangcuoi, I see the point you're trying to make. But as I can see in your original post, you also object to the idea of GT.ru being transformed into an exclusively porn site. Isn't that right?
And I believe more people should express their opinion on that topic, besause all users will be affected if such a decision is unfortunately made. Perhaps there should be a poll on that subject. -
A poll can be interesting to see how the members feel and what they think about these changes, but it will not make any change to them.
In the best case we'll have a better feeling, if the poll would reveal that the members in their majority understand these unpopular moves.

This seems to be an older post (2012) and I'm surprised I couldn't find anything nearer 2017. WHY is there no music? I came here because I want to find gay artists and gay-friendly artists but nada - I'm missing all the new gay musical talent from amateur to concerts. Gosh, I'd love that and I'm sure a great majority would too. Sam Smith, Scissor Sisters, Steve Grand, Delano, Troy Sivan … I could go on and on .. point is, this is a Gay site, we're a Gay Community and we should support our gay musical artists in every way possible and share their music as much as the Asian, Hispanic (would Santana come up on a gay music site? Not likely unless he were in the friendly section - but look him up on any Hispanic torrent site and you are deluged with listings!
It's not fair. I'm wondering why the decision was made. Are music artists pretty fierce people when it comes to protecting their work? I would think on the Dark Web they would want to see their work distributed to as many as possible so they 'could be heard without prejudice or bigotry'. Christian music is on EVERY torrent site but not gay musical artists. Ok, so many don't want to be 'pigeon-holed' as gay but that's stupid and only hurting the artist because who can believe the words of his song if we all know he is lying in the first place? That's how it works folks.
So come on, rally round studs and let's beg these guys to throw in a new Music category, two sections - "gay friendly" and 'gay artists' or something like that. I'd want to download some of my favorite gay friendly folk - Streisand, etc and we'd need that category which would probably fill up very fast. Have to have some rules, all have to be in a zipped/archived folder so they can't be streamed. My hand is up!
