What gets you interested in a TV show?

Fmwhat gets everyone interested in a TV show? Do u watch it for the acto/actress for the genre? If u do watch TV show how long do u give it before u think I like it or its shit n switch off?
-
It has to be very promising in the pilot or it is adios right away.
Intelligence, humor, action, emotion, and uniqueness - give me at least two of those in a well-written storyline or backdrop, and there may be a chance.
(Does not apply to Gay-Themed, though - will give a lot of leeway in that category.)
-
If it has fantasy and/or science fiction aspects to it, I'm probably in. And I'm not going to lie, if the trailer or the poster has a hot guy on it, I will definitely be taking a look, regardless of the genre to see if it will hold my attention.

I normally look for humor and emotion, but also competition, especially if the show is about knowledge competition.

Writing. Hands down. If written well, then the viewers will follow. Also, it seems to me that the actors get "a better feel" of their characters after the first season and grow more as far as character development is concerned. That said, those two factors are the things that keep me interested in a television series. But, writing is key.

Good reviews. I skim reviews from the trade websites (Hollywood Reporter, Variety) and listen to podcasts and if there is unanimous consent and a very high Rotten Tomatoes rating (95% or higher) I will give the show a shot, and usually it's worth sticking with it.

Netiquette dictates that when you ask a question like this, you also provide your own answer.
The only exception is when you are doing pure research, where you don't give your own answer so it won't bias the results. You would let the readers know this.
Obviously, you don't give your own answer to questions where you really don't know; ie "anyone know what time does the hardware store opens today".

Recently I've watched The White Lotus and it was very important to give myself some insight on that very matter. I found out it's not about who's acting, what's the plot, the genre, none of it. It just needs to be telling a story of people who actually exist. Not talking about historical depictions, but rather people I can relate to, or if not, I know someone who does.
I very much prefer stories that don't just focus on one event and it's aftermath, that don't put characters as just the hero and the antagonist, but stories were everybody are the hero to their own narratives, where everyone struggles with their own problems and have to deal with all of it by themselves.

something that makes me forget my current problems.
Been watching Ms Marvel of Disney. It has its fun parts but it's basically a new character and maybe they should have gone with a new character.
the history part makes no sense, I know it's tragic but they're talking about the protagonist's family who are basically aliens that don't even belong on earth.
but overall,i just like watching funny hero tv series that have a origins kind of storyline.

"Air Disasters" on the Smithsonian Chanel! The investigation of what caused the crash interests me! I guarantee it.

Interesting characters and good dialog.
Like to me I loved Game of Thrones because most of the time it had fascinating characters who got good lines.
The spin off House of the Dragon doesn't have anyone worth caring about and none them seem particularly witty. It's a very hollow show.

I have watched American and Canadian television series throughout my whole life. I grew up watching Western television shows and movies. They are still pretty much the same these days. You just watch them because you like the theme or actor, the story. Their still pretty good.
Nowadays, my television time has been all replaced mostly by K-dramas, Japanese anime and Asian Boys Love.
Why? K-dramas hit you differently. Their high budget and will hook you right from the first episode. The Korean film industry has found the perfect formula to attract people. They get you engaged and enraged with emotions that you will want to see what happens next. And this is why I try to limit myself in watching them. I can't get enough sleep for work the next day because my mind will keep on thinking what will happen next fighting myself from turning on Netflix to continue on watching. One thing that's missing from most of them though, they are mostly devoid of sex or nudity to appeal to a wider range of viewership.
Japanese anime are my daily staple as real life can get boring sometimes. It's still the best way to watch fantasies and the Japanese still come up with the best or weirdest stories you'd never thought of. But the Chinese mainlanders are starting to destroy this beautiful hard earned art with their cheap alternatives.
I am new to Asian Boys Love, well it's pretty much in its infancy transitioning from books meant to be read by women that originated from Japan to daily public television drama series and movies that are also being made for streaming services for the more braver ones. You'd also find lots of Western Boys Love books here in GayTor, though the Western people don't call it Boys Love, their pretty much the same - Gay Romance. Love Victor, Alex Strangelove, Hearstopper - these are still all Boys Love - they just don't call it that.
Asian Boys Love are still a hit and miss but quickly evolving with their story-telling. Why do I watch them? They have lessons that relate to most of us and producers always make sure that they are visualized and passed on to us. Of course, it's mostly the gay community in the film industry that funds them. The women just don't realize it. Oh they've got lots of cute boys too.
I still do watch Western television and movies of course. Mostly science fiction. Hey Star Trek! OMG Star Wars! When is the next Superman movie? I am so bored with Marvel Superheroes already. I want more Man of Steel theme on his own planet. I wish he would have a bigger bulge than muscles next time around. Oh how I'd miss that handsome Christopher Reeve but Henry Cavill is stunning. Can Chris Evans be your next Lois Lane?

To get me started in a show it depends on theme, visuals and acting, since those are the things that can show up on trailers and promotional material. Now if the show is already running for sometime word of mouth, reviews or popularity might get me to watch them.
I'm usually really lenient with giving shows a chance (I stuck around the entire first season of Agents of Shield, I'm glad I did, hehehe), but also depends, if there's something I absolutely hate I can stop watching in the first episode.
Now for TV Shows actors don't really draw me in that much. If there's a hot guy I might check it out, but it isn't enough to make me watch it.
