UK - gender equality beats feminism in the courts
-
I brought this up before, but now we have the UK Supreme Court decision.
Equalizing the retirement ages is 100% legal. :cheers: :cheers: :cheers: :cheers:
No more special rights for women in retirement.
A bit of backstory; the UK used to allow women to retire 5 years earlier than men and allowed women to have a lot less working credit years (work and/or stay at home mom). Men had to have 37 working credit years and none of them could be "Mr Mom" years, while women only needed 17 working credit years.
Now, everyone has to have 30 working credit years, but men still don't get "Mr Mom" credit, while women do.
Of course, the equalizing of the retirement age and working credit years is being gradually brought in and wont be fully equal (except as noted above) until 2025. I haven't read the full decision so I'm not sure if the 10 year plan will push it back to 2029 due to the delay of the court case.
++++
Not surprisingly, feminists fought to keep the old system, where women had special rights, rather than fighting for gender equality.
It should be noted that there no feminist push for men to get "Mr Mom" working year credit, while they complain that women are "forced" to care for the kids. They want it both ways.
