Marriage in Canada and Residency
-
Hi,
I'm Brazilian and I'm in a relation with my boyfriend(Canadian from Quebec) for almost 3 years, I visited Canada couple of times but finally I came to stay.
A lawyer charged me 3500 + the process fees, that's about 6.000 Canadian dollars, I'm a bit freaked out to pay all this just to get my residency, I've heard I can do everything from the government's website but I've been countless hours on their website and I'm a bit lost…
As my status in the country I'm a student 6 months VISA (I can't work with that, so I don't have all that money to pay)
I'm going to get married because according to the lawyer is going to speed up the process (But i don't know how).
Does anyone know anything about that, I'd appreciate any help. Or I'd have to borrow this money from somewhere... -
Speaking as a Canadian, check with a local immigrant organization or a Brazilian-Canadian organization. That doesn't sound right to me.
There are a lot of Portuguese in Canada (more than Brazilians). Here's one organization that you could start with.
http://acapo.ca/Also look for organizations working on Gay immigration.
It would definitely help if you and your boyfriend were married.
