Fake News
-
Frederick and any one else who wants to answer–- And I'd like you to think about the question and answer honestly. Before Trump started his campaign, what did you think of CNN, NBC, NYT and WaPo. You may have disagreed with their editorial opinions or even the mix of stories that they chose to cover, but did you think that they spoke and wrote the truth, correcting themselves when they got things wrong?
Trump took the term fake news and bastardized it. Fake news originally referred to false stories, usually propagated on the internet made to look like they came from legitimate news sources. Major news sites has their sites spoofed to enhance the decption. "fake news" never meant negative or even hostile reporting, as long as the facts were accurate.
In my experience, the main-stream media gets its facts right, and when they don't they issue a retraction. When major willful falsehoods are printed, the reporters loose their jobs. Exactly this happened with CNN last week. m Mike Wallace was fired when he violated ethical standard.
Our President has encouraged us all to dismiss news we don't like as Fake News---rather than forcing us to examine facts and engage in critical thinking. It seems he doesn't want us to form our own opinions from available facts. That is a dangerous thing. And scarier still, it is partially working. Even Frederick stated in another thread that criticizing a presidential candidate was OK, but criticizing a sitting president was sedition. From George Washington to Barack Obama, I don't think any of those presidents' supporters felt that way.
Please engage in some self-examination and ponder how Trump has affected your thinking. I promise to so the same, and to take the time to try to understand other opinions and dismiss them out of hand. But any intelligent discussion has to be based on fact, and we have to come to an agreement as to the source of those facts.
Happy Independence Day!

I used to love CNN and almost exclusively for general news and the local independent channel for local news.
Social media is extremely biased toward the far left. Facebook created that algorithm to bury conservative news. They ban conservative accounts, while allowing ISIS, black supremacists, etc, etc, etc.
The experiment of FUCK BLACK PEOPLE vs FUCK WHITE PEOPLE showed an absolute and clear bias in favor of those who say hate filled shit against whites. Jack Dempsey (creator of Twitter) constantly justifies this bullshit bias, as does Zuckerberg.
Black supremacists, who have called for the killing of whites and cops, have never gotten a community strike on YouTube, but disagreeing with feminism, BLM and pretty much any leftist agenda will end up with your account banned.

I spend very little time on social media and all of that time is spent with friends, not seeking political opinion or news, so I won't argue your points there. My post is about mainstream media and the facile dismissal of all of its content as fake. To claim bias is one thing, but to dispute facts is quite another.
You mentioned this in another thread, about Don Lemon shutting down a black commentator because{according to you} he didn't agree with his liberal agenda}
Actually, the were discussing the high cost to protect the president and his family and Paris Denard called it fake news. After an accurate definition of fake news by Lemon, Denard started off his comments again by calling it fake news. Nothing was fake in the reporting of the costs to protect the president. Denard's point was that president hadn't done anything wrong or broken any laws so that made it fake news. Exacerbated, lemon ended the show a few minutes early.you can watch the segment here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7sTXXi_by4

Don Lemon has an anti Trump narrative and doesn't like anyone who goes against it.
Don Lemon created fake news when he and his fellow anti white racist, Symone Sanders, said the Chicago kidnapping wasn't a hate crime. The criminals admitted it was rooted in hate and they were charged with hate crimes. But as usual, whites can't be victims of hate crimes and blacks can't commit hate crimes.
Don Lemon flip flops on what is fake news depending on the situation. If the story is anti Trump, it's real news. If the story is anti-leftist, it's fake news.

Yopu mentioned this in another thread, about Don Lemon shutting down a black commenator necause{according to you} he didn't agree with his liberal agenda}
Yopu was correct, and Don Lemon was being very hostile to the black commenator Necause. As commenators go, Necause is one of my favorites.
Seriously though.. Don Lemon is constantly hostile to his guests. If things don't go his way, he stomps and whines like a 2 year old. CNN has a big problem with Don Lemon. He doesn't learn, he only gets worse. They can't get rid of him because of his tan, and because his show is in prime time. CNN created a beast that they have no control over. I was never a fan of Bill O'Reilly either. Bill's biggest flaw was that he would throw people like Trump under the bus just to make himself look like he was being "fair". Any host that comes off as thinking or being better than his guests is a host that needs to go. This is why Ed Sullivan was so successful, and why Letterman became so horrible. Bill O'Reilly suffers from Limbaughitis.

No one has answered the original question of this post. I will grant, for the sake of discussion, that Don Lemon is an ass and should be kicked off CNN. Now let's get back to the original question: Even if you thought their editorial choices were biased, did you trust the facts of the mainstream media before Trump?
You all conflate political commentary with real news. -
As a classic liberal, we were always told that FOX was "faux" news. SO it stands to reason that the mainstream news was "faux" news as well.

You all conflate political commentary with real news.These days.. nobody is covering the news as "real news" because that is not sensational enough. It has become like "Fleet Street" in London or the "National Enquirer" (which now has more credibility than CNN).
While on the topic of CNN.. expect to see some big changes there. The reason is that CNN is a publically traded stock.. and their stock took a big dive in June. I know a bit about stocks, and CNN's has been rising steadily for a long time… until June 2017. When stocks that were going up start going down, stockholders get very upset, panic, and demand that changes be made.

I assume you are talking about Time-Warner, which owns CNN. Its stock, however have been climbing slowly, and are more affected by the possible merger with AT&T

That is actually true.. that's the 3rd mistake I've made this year!
However.. my message is still valid in that when the stock DOES start to slide, investors will blame CNN and heads will roll.

I'm glad to see you admit your mistakes. I'll promise to admit mine too. I think the discussion is cleaner and more enlightening when we stack to the facts. As for Time-Warner, if it does merge with AT&T, the conglomerate will be so big that CNN could go bankrupt without it affecting the stock price. Also, they probably would sell it off before it got to that point.
But I still would like an answer to my original question. Your silence implies assent.
