Gay Sex in the Middle East
-
Everything i see printed for public consumption tells me that even to BE gay is dangerous in countries of the Middle East, like Pakistan, Arabia, Iraq and so on. There are laws with serious consequences for gays.
On the other side of the coin, i have a personal friend who toured the area and came back telling me he "had so many boys that he got blisters on his cock."
The blisters may be an over statement, but he was clear that he had no trouble. He's a chubby Frenchman, and does quite well in California as well.
So what's up with the public perception and the facts?
Thanks,

I have heard the same from travellers.. that it seems to be not as bad as people say.. They are not not running down the street screaming for it or having sex in the streets etc but neither are we LOL
I think some of it is a fear campaign - but also a way to get some minorities onside with the hate against the middle east - even politicians are starting to see it as such but the hate/fear is already there
I think that the extremists ARE doing some awful things but that is a small percentage or more so, I should say, limited to smaller areas that are more extreme

This may come as a shock to some people because of the blanket-smothered perspective that the media generates, but just like in the Western world, there's an extremely wide berth of variety in terms of microcultures. Even in the Middle East, metro areas are just factually more liberal, and thereby less homophobic. The further away from major cities you go, the more conservative it gets, and thereby the more influenced by extremist religious ideas (i.e. homophobia).
Now of course, the key difference is that there are things like religious police in a lot of Middle Eastern countries, which does make it inherently more dangerous to be visibly "out", but you will probably be fine as long as you don't draw attention to yourself as a gay person.
The side effect of this extreme oppression is that it's naturally funneling LGBT people toward major cities, which is also true in the West, but it's much more pronounced of a phenomenon in the Middle East. This does mean that, because there's a higher saturation of gays in these areas, it's much easier to hook up, but it's not something I would personally recommend doing because of the inherent dangers.
