Can't download - still finding peers
-
Hello,
So in the past 2-5 days it seems all of my torrents can't find peers for some reason, and it's only happen on only this site's torrent. I can download other torrents from the other site fine, and around 5 days ago I have no problem on finding peers for this site torrent.
Tried others torrents from this site, same result.
Any idea?
Thanks.

The most common cause of this is that your ISP's DNS servers are not resolving the IP address for the tracker for some reason. This seems to be a common problem. There are 2 ways that you can fix this:
-
Change your computer or network's DNS settings to use Google DNS by using 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as the DNS servers.
-
Modify your computer's hosts file by adding two lines. If you're unsure of how to change your hosts file, I would encourage you to check out this comprehensive guide. The two lines you want to add should read as follows:
77.247.179.58 tracker.gaytorrent.ru
77.247.179.58 tracker.gaytorrent.twOnce these lines are added, you should be able to resolve the tracker's IP, without the need for a DNS lookup. This method will work, regardless of what DNS servers you're using.

I've tried editing hosts file and google dns methods, not working kinda. Pretty weird.
-
Are you using a proxy to connect to the tracker?
-
I don't use any proxy to download torrents, it's so painfully slow to download with it for me anyways plus I don't need privacy for that.

I believe the problem has to do with your ISP and the way that they run things. I think you will find that if you use a VPN to override your ISP's blocks that they have in place, your problem should go away.
I have been able to confirm this with a few other cases of this with other users who are using the same ISP that you're on. Simply put, it would seem that your ISP either does not cooperate with our tracker, or that your ISP has some sort of block in place that is preventing you from reaching the tracker. Although I do not know the exact technical cause, it would appear there is either a routing block or a routing problem between your ISP and our systems.
I would be inclined to recommend the use of a VPN not just for privacy reasons, but also to ensure that you are not caught behind routing blocks that I am certain your ISP puts into place for whatever the reason.
EDIT: Come to think of it, I recall trying to troubleshoot the very same issue with a couple of different people who use the same ISP as you do and determined that there seems to be an intermittent routing issue to certain IP subnets (one of which our tracker falls into). As I recall, filing a trouble ticket with your ISP eventually solved the problem, but it was a long, complex, and drawn out process, and the problem reappeared again within a week or two. So… For this reason, I would suggest a VPN.

YUP, this issue was investigated in some great depth, and it happened to affect ME, personally, as Staff; I couldn't access our lovely GTRU site some days…and COULD, on other days, thanks to the inept technical staff at the 3bb ISP company.
The link to the forum topic "Why some IP address from Thailand cannot go to GTRU" is HERE:
https://forum.gaytorrent.ru/index.php?topic=43488.0Short term immediate fix was to invest in a VPN (I used the paid version of proXPN), which provided the access to the site, to perform staff functions RELIABLY, EVERY DAY, but, as you noted, had the problems with torrent speed, which was to be expected.
LONG TERM FIX was to switch to the TOT ISP, and I chose the high-speed fibre promotion options, which for about 100 Baht more per month than I was paying 3bb, resulted in about 20 times faster access / download speed, with consistent reliability (aside from ONE outage).
I've grown to have complete and utter disrespect for the folks at 3bb... since repeated calls for help PLUS an ON-SITE-VISIT resulted in "shrugs of the shoulders" along with "Gee, we don't know what's going on, or WHY this is happening..." EVEN WHEN supplied by the data printout from our Staff Memeber MrMazda, which showed EXACTLY where their failure was occurring.
Good luck on resolving this; switch to TOT; you won't regret the decision.

Thanks for the replies,
So it's seem it is my ISP messing thing up, also @pawpcorn I'm using True online right now plus the one year contract. So I guess I'll stuck on true for a big while now sucks I know. I tho True Online was the best, I had some friends who recommended me a lot about them (but they don't torrents on this site anyways lol ) so whats about tot's internet in general. (Like normal usage etc)? I have heard a lot of bad things from tot but maybe they're improving a lot from the past now? Maybe I'll consider changing if true can't help me from this or else.
Also perhaps if anyone here can recommend me some VPN to download torrents? just a temp fix for now.
Thank you very much.

I personally use PrivateVPN. It would seem that recently, there are sometimes intermittent issues with some of their server locations being able to reach our website, however I know that Frankfurt, Germany 1; London, UK 2; Oslo, Norway; and I believe also Kiev, Ukraine are all locations that have port forwarding enabled that will allow you to connect to our site and tracker no problem, and will allow you to have the correct ports open, as long as you're using UDP + TAP for these locations.

proXPN is a terrific VPN; made it able to connect up here back in the days of my 3bb nightmare. I think I paid about $40 for a year, and there are promotions on that, if you search the internet
https://couponfollow.com/site/proxpn.com here's a 62% discount coupon.
and more:Â https://www.google.com/search?q=proxpn+promotionsTRUE has a pretty bad reputation all around, and often has connection problems via old phone lines / shoddy installation / infamous Thai "good-enough!" installation philosophy.
SO VERY HAPPY with my TOT fiber up here in Phan Don, Kumphawapi, 35km south of Udon Thani…
Right now, it's 10:30 pm (so still gaming time, eh?) and speed test shows 53.7Mbps down, and 19.2Mbps up, and this costing 750 Baht a month (plus VAT)... just fantastic, almost too good to be true. This was a TOT promotion that was included in my first mailed bill.
Sticking with your current ISP... for the sake of the one year contract??? I understand your thinking, but perhaps (as I did) if you can prove to them that their service sucks and you can't access GTRU, even when you have their (so-called) "service engineers" come visit you at home... you may be able to escape some or all of that contract.
Even if you CAN'T get out from that cursed contract (is there a Thai agency you can call for help in dealing with this???) the peace of mind from being able to have HIGH-SPEED-PORN (LOL) is not to be underestimated.
Hugs, and good luck,

Thanks everyone, I guess I'll have to go with vpn method. also I'll try to notified them about this first too.
Also pretty weird, at late night sometimes I got a good speed downloading. as I always leave my computer on, some torrents were finished as I check.
Also @pawpcorn , not like any third world countries would have a consumer protection, lol. plus this country gov wouldn't mind censoring any porn (both straight and gay) anyways. Â :-X
Edit: http://i.imgur.com/RieBcoY.png Well that was pretty dumb isp, around 2am I got a full speed on all gaytorrent.ru torrents. no vpn. funny. :cheesy2:

This sounds like a possible intermittent routing issue with your provider. Changing providers, or even using a VPN to route around your provider's defunct route, would get you around this when it happens.

I think adding the two lines worked for me .Thanks!
