Finding/Reporting Duplicates
-
Hi Guys
Week old user here - been uploading a few things and notified of 2 duplicates - 1st, I swear was not there when i searched, lesson learnt, look harder!! The 2nd had such a vague title that i would never have found it unless i went through tons of videos of a particular porn star's name.
2 Questions on this.
1. Are these noted as marks against an uploader's name ? e.g. 3 duplicates and you get warned ?
2. I have reported videos within the exact parameters of what constitutes a duplicate, during my time here and have only received notification of 1 being actioned/rewarded, yet when mine is reported it I get told within a few hours - is this normal?
not upset, just confused lol

We got a search guide to search before uploading there > https://www.gaytorrent.ru/uploadguide.php?lan=1#500 , it might be helpful.
To your questions:

Yes, duplicates are listed on an uploader's Profile (only torrent staff can see).
There will be no warning usually, but if there are two many duplicates among the uploads the member will be set to have he uploads reviewed by a moderator prior to being made public. It is not a fixed amount of duplicates but these are seen in context of the global uploading activity. It makes a difference if an uploader got 5 duplicates among 10 uploads or among 100 uploads or if among the first days 4 uploads were 3 duplicates and it is visible the lesson was learned with the following uploads.

This depends on the 'quality' of the reports. We got a handful of members regularly reporting duplicates (and seem to check new uploads), which have a very low rate of wrong reports. Others are reported by members specialised in a niche and knowing all its uploads rather well. This makes most duplicates reported quite fast.
The path to decide if a reported upload is duplicate is rather complex (so is for the reporter to make a 'quality' report) and there are many reasons why a report might be dismissed (unfortunately the review page got no way to quickly tell the reporter the reason). I remember to have dismissed 2 or 3 of your reports yesterday, but not the exact reason.
Here some common reasons to dismiss a duplicate report:
1. Not duplicate because different file container format, avi vs mp4 vs mkv etc… (NB.: mp4, m4v, mov are considered same if same file size), or same container, but size difference > 10%
2. One of the reported pair is considered a 'collection'
3. The original is reported as duplicate. This happens mostly with originals having the recycle sign in the title. Those are promoted (bumped) up the list by modifying the added date. The original date is inserted into the description.
4. One or both of the reported uploads is/are dead. In this case, the dead will be deleted (we prefer a seeded over a dead) and it helps to clean the listing, but unfortunatelt the review page does not allow to reward the reporter.
5. Not duplicate because different works -

Thanks for the link, and prompt response, Mr Popper

Also, it should be noted that if you have a moderator like me reviewing your account, I also look at how long you've been a member, as well as a few other factors, including how easy it would be to have found the original. If you're a newer member and I see an upload coincidence (i.e. both uploads are within 5 minutes of each other), or if I see that the original was obscure and hard to find, the worst I'll usually do is send the user a PM with information and tips on how to dig a little better to find the duplicate. If you're a relatively new member and/or you do not really have an upload history to use to formulate a base history with, you're more likely to get a friendly reminder with some helpful hints than anything else. We like to try to give our users a fair chance to get things right and do the right thing before penalising them for excessive duplicates.
Remember, as mods, our goal isn't to be harsh or otherwise "lay down the law" as it were, but rather, is to help our members in finding these things when they upload. So… As a general rule, although the duplicates are logged, a few duplicate uploads among a longer history of good uploads isn't something we'll act on, as we fully understand that sometimes, even the best of us make mistakes. It's just a part of being human. Now... If we see that you've uploaded say 25 torrents, and 20 of them were duplicates, only then will we act on it. So... If you're trying to do the right thing and you just happen to have made a mistake, don't sweat it, because even I have accidentally uploaded a duplicate because of how obscure the original was to find.
