"The victim was called racial epithets such as “watermelon”, “chicken-eater”, and “nigger”, and Howard taunted the victim with a “Ku Klux Klan” song, the lawsuit alleged."
Yep. No Hate crime. Sure.
It's a lawsuit, not a criminal case. It's easy to make claims in a lawsuit, especially when there is no independent witnesses.
I want a link to where Don Lemon says its not a hate crime and Symone Sanders saying it's not a hate crime.
Don Lemon will immediately jump on a Hillary supporter claiming to be a victim, and scream they are victims of hate crimes. Yet he won't do it here.
You can interpret press briefings however way you want. I want a quote.
Watch the original Chicago PD press conference for this case.

UPDATE: Finally, the police are treating this as a hate crime.
I also noticed Obama has been silent so far. If the races were reversed, he'd be race baiting the issue.
First of all the news here in Canada were referring to this horrible crime as a hate crime right from the beginning and second President Oboma was on the news speaking about this crime and he also was referring to this as a hate crime. While that young man was being brutalized it was being streamed live via facebook. Why was it that the police were only notified after the young man escaped? What about the sick individuals who watched it live and did nothing to stop it?

How long did it take for the Canadian news to talk about this story? The story broke Tuesday evening/night on Fox News, even on Wednesday the liberal media outlets still hadn't reported on it.
The 1st person to talk about this from the White House was the Assistant Press Secretary and that was at least the next day.
AGREED on the part about the people who watched it and did nothing,

It was on CBC the Tuesday evening when the young man escaped and I listened to President Oboma talking about this "hate crime" on Wednesday. Personally I was pissed that CBC also showed part of the video that had been streamed live. Hasn't this young man been hurt enough without having news outlets replaying the video over and over? As for those who watched it live via Facebook, it's a shame they can't be found and charged with aiding and abating this horrendous crime!

The first mention of this incident I can find on the CBC news site is from 6:06am Thursday, 5 Jan. That's 2 days later and at least 12 hours after it was decided to charge them with hate crimes.
The CBC was extremely up to date on the Kardshian robbery case though.

4 blacks knidnap a mentally disabled white guy, yelling FUCK TRUMP and FUCK WHITE PEOPLE. Oh yeah, the police aren't sure if it's a hate crime, despite the video evidence.
YouTube and Facebook keep removing the video. I guess because it makes blacks look bad or something.
It make you wonder why no left leaning "news" outlet is talking about this. Could this be the reason why so many SJWs claim they don't know things like this are happening?
it certainly doesn't help that it's being called the BLM kidnapping because it's not that.
you have a very good point but everyone on the internet is going to act like they know everything that happened and bullshit isnt' fixed with more bullshit.
