Does Trump's victory in the Presidental election worry you as an LGBT individua?
-
I'm somewhat worried especially considering Pence has more influence now.
One thing that does somewhat allay my fears is that Bernie Sanders made the following statement: "I will vigorously oppose Trump if he appeals to racism, sexism, or other discriminatory measures"
-
Trump has been watering down his rhetoric since the election. As an example, he's already said that he plans on keeping big chunks of "Obama-care", but prior to the election, he said he was going to repeal all of it.

I really hope that everything works for you there

So all the violence by BLM against whites and the police are the fault of Obama and Hillary? The same could be said of Orlando and other events.
I'm going to assume you're trolling on purpose.
BLM came about as a result of police brutality and unlawful/unjustified killings, that were particularly inflicted upon the black community.
It has no basis with Obama or Clinton and you know that! Stop peddling lies.
-
The immediate worry is how Trump's rhetoric has given a surge of empowerment and free license for people to spew hate/violence. I avoided the news since the election and was curious to know if acts of vandalism/violence against minority groups started to trend up and skimming the first few posts here, was disheartened to see that was the case.
I realize I sound like a broken record if I yet again bring up the similarities in the UK after their referendum vote. But yeah, dramatic increases violence and verbal threats against the the Polish, Muslims, etc and even those who may have been 2nd/3rd generation immigrants.
Long term worry is who will be appointed to the Supreme Court. Hoping for a moderate like Chief Justice Roberts (who I respect greatly because of his fair approach) and definitely hoping a clone of Justice Thomas or Scalia isn't next in line.
I'd feel a little more at ease if Democrats had control of something to counterbalance, but it is not meant to be

The thing that bothers me the most is that this election has brought out the worst in people. It seems that bigotry, racism, misogyny, and homophobia have been legitimized. After all the strides forward we've made, I feel that we may be set back 50 years.
As an Independent who didn't vote for Hillary or Trump: If anything's been legitimized, it's left wing hysteria and baseless accusations of "bigotry, racism, misogyny, and homophobia". People don't think about anything critically or objectively anymore, they just regurgitate sensational BS and shout "isms" they hear in their Facebook and Twitter echo chambers.
The fact is, Hillary was/is so enmeshed in corruption and guilty of so much blatant hypocrisy, people felt they couldn't trust her. "Racists" didn't vote, people who saw how unbelievably corrupt and insultingly dishonest Clinton was, and how deeply her corruption appears to run throughout the American political system, even the media (CNN, anyone?), voted.
In short, Trump is the last guy I'm concerned about. I'm more afraid of the hysterical, rioting protesters than the alleged racist/homophobic/whatever boogeymen coming out of the woodwork that I keep hearing about from Liberals, but have yet to see. I'm more afraid of the people around Trump than I am of the bumbling fool himself (Mike Pence, for one. But that's why they call VP's "assassination insurance", right?).
I feel the same way you do, and I'm also an Independent.

I did campaign for Jill Stein, on facebook at least and a few former friends did not like that I did not support or vote for Hillary, and some even went as far as blaming me for Donald Trump being elected even though both Jill Stein and Gary Johnson and other 3rd party candidates did not "steal votes from Hillary and give them to Trump", so they no longer talk to me because of this; but it's their loss.
-
Yes the left wing anger has no meaning.
Even though it looks like Hillary is going to win the popular vote by about 500k votes and therefore Trump has no mandate from the people.
Even though the FBI have gone to a FISA court to investigate Trump links with Russia and the findings will be sealed.
Even though the FBI interfered with the election.
Even though the KKK are holding a Trump victory march next month in NC and there have been reports of many terrorist attacks as a result of the election.
And that's only what's known this week, be prepared for much more.
I can't imagine what people would have to protest about, but maybe they should have the armed revolution the Trumpsters were planning ;D

Of course I'm worried. My husband and I had to wait 22 years before we had the right to be married in California. Then, 6 months later, that right was stripped by a ballot initiative. Our marriage was left hanging in limbo again. The Supreme Court's Obergefell v. Hodges ruling which allowed same sex marriage across the entire U.S. was only a 5-4 ruling. Despite the claims that it's been decided once and for all, the history of the court shows otherwise. There have been many decisions throughout history which have later been reversed - think about the sodomy laws which were upheld then later overturned. Currently the Republican party holds the majority in both houses of Congress and in the White House. They have chipped away at Roe v. Wade with the eventual intent of overturning it. They are also doing the same to Obergefell v. Hodges with their Religious Freedom Restoration acts. This is a time for all people of color, all women, and all LGBTQ people in the USA to live in terror. Even if Trump is impeached for some reason, that leaves Pence. Pence is an advocate of making all abortions illegal, even in the cases of rape or the survival of the mother. Pence has also advocated electro-shock therapy equivalent to torture banned by the Geneva Convention to convert LGBTQ people to straight. He pushes this even though the medical community has debunked the conversion therapy as not only ineffective, but actually harmful.
This election has set LGBTQ and women's rights back 60 years.

To quote Mike Pence;
"I'm pro-life and I don't apologize for it. We'll see Roe vs. Wade consigned to the ash heap of history where it belongs."

One silver lining…Trump is going to gut the Republican Party.

Really? Have you looked at his Transition Team (the people who will set up his new Cabinet)?? He demoted Chris Christie (slightly more liberal) and put Mike Pence in charge. He's got the A-Team of anti-LGBTQ set to run the Executive Branch.
I bought a new T-shirt to commemorate this election. It shows the preabmle to the Constitution (We The People . . . ) and over the top is a big red rubber stamped "ARE SO SCREWED".

You really need to learn the facts. Michael Brown was deemed to be a justified killing. "Hands up, don't shoot" was proven a lie by over 100 FBI agents. That was the lie that started BLM.
Blacks are killed at a much lower rate than their portion of the crime rate. Blacks are responsible for over 50% of the crime rate and over 40% of the cop killings, yet they make up only about 25% of the people cops kill.
Obama and Hillary fed into the race baiting rather than trying to calm it down.

Both are blowback from the ultra liberal cultural marxism.
For ages in the UK, it was better to be seen molesting children than talking about immigration. Like with muslims now, the media would whitewash the identity of the people who commit crimes. After about a day, UK media removed all references to the France McDonald's killer's muslimness. Without UKIP, the political establishment would have never allowed us to discuss immigration or the EU.
The US has had a similar thing with illegals and more recently with blacks. There are countless videos on YouTube showing the media whitewashing the fact that black people are committing crimes. Over the last few years, the media has almost completely ignored the evil things SJWs of all ilks have been up to. Like with the UK and UKIP, without Trump, the political establishment would never have allowed us to discuss these issues.

Hell, this worries me as a human being. I swear, just hearing jets go overhead makes me nervous now.
-
"Hands up, don't shoot" was proven a lie by over 100 FBI agents.
Considering there weren't over 100 FBI agents there, that's astonishing.
BLM is about more than just one case.
In the week before the election 10 police officers were shot, 7 of them killed, all the culprits/suspects are white - I wonder when Trump will speak out about that?
-
One silver lining…Trump is going to gut the Republican Party.
Believe it or not, even though I dislike the outcome of the election, I'm not too worried. The biggest loss for me is the Supreme Court. Had we Dems won, it really would have allowed a way to cement a lot of change in America for generations to come.
I'm less worried about Trump. Republicans are NOT unified. They are a majority, but their factions are not on the same page, and I don't think they will get there. Trump is already making mistakes that will open the eyes of his supporters to the massive con job he pulled on them. One of his main rallying cries was that he was going to "Drain the swamp" yet a lot of the names being floated for positions of importance in his Cabinet are the very swamp he is supposed to be draining. He's supposed to be surrounding himself with "Only the best", but the caveat to that is "Only the best, that he can get", as many people from both parties won't consider working for him. This idea of appointing family members is flat out nepotism. Yes, HRC was corrupt. But, Trump supporters, are these leaked, unconfirmed conversations that are happening any better, assuming a 180 isn't done on them? Or is it better simply because he's a corrupt RINO doing it instead of a corrupt Democrat? I think most of us knew they were BOTH corrupt, so it wasn't a disqualifier for either. Neither was lying, as they were both liars.
In some ways, all of this could play to the Dem's advantage. Trump and Co feel they have a mandate. That's really not the case. The Dems actually picked up seats after the elections even though they didn't wrestle away control (don't quote me on that, I read that somewhere but haven't confirmed it). There are still a lot of Repubs who are wary of Trump, given that he's really a Dem who simply used the Republican platform to launch his White House campaign. He really has very few values in common with Republicans. Deportation isn't going to happen (at least not these mass roundups like he described and instilled in his voters), as no politician really wants what Trump described on the campaign trail, with the exception of my single issue Senator, Mr. Sessions. Obamacare will NOT be repealed on Day 1. They have to come up with an alternative, and get it up and running, before they ever repeal anything. (If they do repeal on Day 1, it will be symbolic only, and people will be grandfathered into current Obamacare coverage until the new alternative is up and running. That could take years, as this is the US government we are talking about.) Gay Marriage is safe until a court case works its way through the completely backlogged court system and winds up before a Supreme Court that has had at least 2 appointments filled. (One appointment just points the court back at 5-4 with the same make up that decided for Gay Marriage. An additional appointment is needed to actually tilt the court, and it needs to be a Repub replacement of a retiring Dem.) It's the same for Roe vs. Wade and abortion. Building a wall and getting Mexico to pay for it was just a pipedream to begin with.
Trump made too many promises that he will not be able to keep. They were either impossible from the get go, or he needed bigger coat tails than what he got to be able to force these things through, assuming he believed in his own ideas in the first place. I, for one, am NOT convinced he believed them. I think it was just his way of motivating/pandering for votes, just like HRC did. It amazes me that people bought his crap hook, line, and sinker. If he does try to force things through, he's going to be a one term President, as he is on a short leash, even if he doesn't realize it. We are going to have just as much gridlock as we had before (possibly even more, since most Dems are not even open to giving him a "honeymoon"/chance from the start.) I'm not sure how the right doesn't see all this.
All this controversial stuff is for the birds. The walk back of his campaign rhetoric has already started, as we are already hearing that major parts of Obamacare (outlawing pre-existing conditions, kids on coverage until age 26, arguably the two most useful, costly, and important parts) may be kept. If he's looking to make good on a campaign promise, he needs to focus on jobs to maintain those "Blue Wall" states he flipped. His infrastructure idea would be a place he could start from, but, (surprise!) that isn't anything Repubs truly want, or it would have been done at some point during the last 8 Obama years, as it is NOT a new idea. Obama called for it in at least the last 3 State of the Union addresses. Besides, Repubs don't want to flat out confirm for voters that they were playing obstruction politics with the economy for the last 8 years by not allowing a large infrastructure program way back then.
To be honest, I can't even think of a safe place for Trump to start trying to "Make America Great Again" from. It's too early to start talking about tax cuts. Besides, he probably doesn't want to use what little "goodwill" or political capital he may have post election on that as a starting point for his presidency. That's something that wouldn't impact until 2018 at the earliest, likely 2019 if Dems fight it. Trump has basically just jumped out of the plane and landed behind enemy lines. He's on rough terrain filled with landmines ready to explode. There's no way he's going 4 years and not set one off, especially given the start he's already off to - politics as usual with Cabinet appointments from an "outsider" who's already learning to be an "insider", and a helping of nepotism to go along with it. Dems just need to make sure they don't take a beating in 2018 or mess up 2020, as that is the census year and they need that to clean up all the congressional district gerrymandering from 2010 that allowed Repubs to start taking over the state level.
I'm interested in hearing what Trump supporters really think he's going to be able to accomplish. Not what he said he would mind you, as what he said is already being walked back by none other than the man himself in some cases. Do you really think he's the change agent he sold himself as? That's what Obama was too, no? Republicans blocked Obama. Do you really think Dems won't block Trump? How does he escape gridlock without considerably more Republican unity, assuming no Democratic wipeout in 2018? Moreover, where can he start that won't explode in his face?

I consider myself a reasonable person, and I have been worried sick ever since the day after the election. I am afraid of what will happen to America. If I could afford to leave, I would. As it is… I don't know what I'll do.
-
Not in the least.
-
More than Trump himself, I'm more afraid of what (some of) his supporters are capable of doing and ARE doing right now.
I understand that Trump is only against illegal immigrants and not legal immigrants, but that fact didn't stop many of his supporters from harassing and threatening soooo many people of color, LGBT+ people, Muslims etc.
I have read about over 50 such incidents that occurred all over the country which took place on the first day of Trump presidency.
A FEW examples:- A black man's car was atrociously vandalized with the words "NIG*ER" and "Trump" right next to each other.
- A gay man has been brutally attacked by Trump supporters right after the election results were announced. They smashed a bottle over his head and was left bleeding profusely while they yelled, "We got a new president you fucking fagg*ts."
- A woman of color was threatened by white Trump supporters in a gas station who asked her to leave the country, and then proceeded to pull out a gun on her and said, "If there weren't any witnesses, I'd kill you right now."
The internet is blowing up with MANY more such incidents.
So, while Trump cannot directly make drastic changes in the law and stuff like that without going through all the necessary processes which I assume are governed by a number of people, his supporters are almost free to do as they like. THEY are the ones who are spreading white supremacy, racism, sexism, homophobia and xenophobia. And they are taking advantage of the fact that Trump, a person who has in fact spoken out on all this things in a negative way, even if he didn't mean them on such a degree, is now president. And they feel like they can do what they want and not get in trouble for it, because their thought process will be, "A guy who supports all my ideals is president, so why can't I do these things?"
So in conclusion, I'm more afraid of what his supporters will/could do, rather than Trump himself.
So all the violence by BLM against whites and the police are the fault of Obama and Hillary? The same could be said of Orlando and other events.
I'm not saying that the actions of the supporters are the FAULT of the politicians per se (and sorry if it came out like that). Trump probably didn't even want any of the things that are happening right now to be happening.
But you can't exactly deny that his supporters are doing what they are doing BECAUSE Trump is president. -

And perhaps people should do a little research before sharing such bullshit without a little verification:
AT LEAST 2 of your 3 examples have been proven to be FALSE, but don't let a little thing like the truth get in the way of your paranoia and hate!
