Searching for other users
-
So I replied to one of the messages I received, but apparently when you send a reply, the original message gets deleted, and your reply is also not saved. I think I found the profile settings that can prevent that in the future, but I wanted to find the user just in case. However, when I go to the "sentbox" and click on "Do you need to find someone?" link, it takes me to the page "Permission denied". Can anybody explain why it is like this and whether it is a bug or some intentional thing?

You seem to have found the box in Settings for the default Send PM.
You will also see when you send or reply a small box saying Save message to Sentbox. You need to check this before you send your message.
I had never seen that "Do you need to find someone?" button before, perhaps I hadn't scrolled down enough.
There did used to be a facility for searching for members by name on your Profile settings page. For some reason the Admins decided this was too radical and it was disabled.
The only ways you can check up on anyone these days is if they post in the forums or they send you a message. Or go through the list of members online - good luck with that one :afr2:
If you think you might want to contact someone again you can scroll through your messages if they are not deleted, add that person to your friends list or make a note of their userid, for instance yours is 640787. You can use the last to send a message to someone who has hidden his details. Method on requestÂ

I see, thank you for explaining.
No, I can't scroll through my messages, because both his message and my reply got deleted as soon as I sent my reply. His username is wurmgator. Couldn't find him through site-specific google search either. So I guess my only hope is that he will reply to my message. -
I hope your settings are now set to 'not delete' - you then have to manually delete messages which is a pain but at least they are there.
Just a couple more thoughts, not sure if they are even possible.
Contact the Helpdesk to see if it is possible to forward a message.
If he replied to a post in a forum, perhaps another post in that forum might reach him.
But it would be nice to check if someone is here even if they have blocked messages. I fear that battle is lost :cry2:
