Duplicate torrents
-
I am unclear about the issue of Duplicate torrents. Before uploading a new torrent I do a search for the title before uploading my own torrent. So I am surprised when notified that my torrent has been deleted as it's a duplicate. When doing my search I don't include dead torrents and am wondering if this is the problem? Anyone know the answer or can offer advice? Would really be appreciated. :hmmm: :thx:

notified that my torrent has been deleted as it's a duplicate.
Unless I'm mistaken, if the torrent which caused your upload to be flagged as a duplicate is inactive (dead) you should report this to the help desk, as the policy favors having inactive torrents being replaced by their duplicates.
As Popper puts it:
If the original is dead at the time of review, it will be deleted and the report dismissed. We won't try to revive the original"

Maybe another reason is that the original one is under another title (or the way uploader "coded" their file name)

Could also be the other torrent was dead, then a user started seeding that "dead"torrent. Which then could cause a dupe report by a user. Then the old torrent to go dead again after the report.

So I guess that means to check the dead torrents :hmmm: Thanks everyone for your info! :thx:

Yes, you must include dead torrents in the search before uploading and if there is a dead, get it removed before you make your upload.
It is as well possible that your search term approach needs to be tuned. See our guide there for tips:
